    another C20NE powered mini :)

    Hello all

After a year of messing about, i have gone from

    (94 BHP 1275 A series with a 45 weber)
    to

C20NE with a modified janspeed manifold, 2 1/2" stainless single box exhaust, reversed inlet and a cheap ebay induction kit

Managed to get it MOT'd on Thursday, Taxed Friday and out at combe on Sat

1st impression of this conversion are good, but i have a couple of Q's for those more informed about Vaux lumps than me. Out on the track, in 4th and 5th (F16CR box), when i hit 5500 RPM, the power drops away dramatically and basically wont pull past it (1st - 3rd isn't a prob and on the road it wasn't noticed).
Is that normal for a NE? If so, what are my option to improve this for minimal outlay (and with out lifting the engine).

I have heard that swapping the cam and ECU for units from a 20SEH would work, does the ECU plug straight in and would it work well with the lower compression of the NE and the exhaust/airfilter fitted?

Also had this chip suggested, has anyone got experience of this companies work?

Finally, to get it to fit after fitting my reversed inlet manifold, i had to mount my air flow meter on it's side (sprung flap type), will this effect how it works in any notable way? I can't see it myself, but i thought it was worth an ask.

Cheers in advance (and sorry for all the Q's)

    Craig

Unfortunately to convert the engine to SEH (130 BHP) you need the pistons as well as the ECU and camshaft, as it is a higher compression engine (due to the pistons being less dished).

Not pulling past 5500 in high gears with an NE is fairly normal, the SEH isn't a big improvement either in that respect to be honest. Wouldn't think it matters for a track anyway as it's 100+ MPH before it happens.

I would not bother with the chip myself, you never know what mess they have made of the map, and it's totally pointless raising the rev limit with the standard cam as the power is already tailing off well before the standard limiter cuts in, on the NE.

As tinxy said, a bit of cutting and TIG welding reversed the inlet. If you want( and can get an inlet down Brizzle way) i can put you in touch with Owen who did mine.

Cheers for the advice, I know to get the full SEH spec pistones where required, but I can't be peached with swapping pistons (if i was going down that route i'd prob stick an echotech bottom end in and make use of its flat tops), but just looking to keep the power going a bit further as i was topping out in 5th at 5500 round combe (105 on 10's :P) and i haven't yet got back to full confidence in the corners so want to try and make sure that this doesn't hold me back next time out. But not a prob on the roads

I have to admit i was a bit sceptical about the chip, but they did have very good feed back so i thought it was worth an ask.

Putting an SER/SEH cam and SEH ECU on would be worth a try then. You can get a tool to hold the cam followers down so that you don't have to undo the head bolts etc and associated cost with all that.

Good feedback on the chip just means they were delivered
