can you not fit the tank into the spare wheel well and fit some kind of false floor at the height it comes to and put up with a shallower boot, can chuck and ice stuff you wanted in there too?

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
cheers mate, this IS my comfofy econmoical runaround as apose to the nutter petrol drinking weapon the astra is going to be...... sound familiar??? lmaolmaolmaolmaolmaolmaolmao
what ever happened to that vanlmao
but it really is this timethis really is the comfy family car and thats the way its gonna stay, and the mods will be there, but not the same path as the van drivveled into, get as much power, least weight, lowest stance and uultimte coolness spiaral out of control
and now as a faimily guy ive gotta watch all my moneys and save it where possible, the job of the cav
the problem is that cavalier saloons dont have such a MASSIVE boot as you'd think from looking from the outside, they are quite deep, but due to all the IRS and subframe the boot floor is a hell of alot higher than normal already, and as the rear screen doesnt open like a hatch, theres not really much space to get things at alli even struggle to fit the buggy in at the mo
if it was a hatchback with opening rear window then i wouldnt even be thinking anything else than raising the floor job done, (even though a hatch wouldnt need to be done as it has a full size wheel well lmao) but space is already a problem in the saloon
so it looks like the only option, but have to look into it
cheers mate, yea have always liked cav gsi's for years but never had the urge to have one, im far more into light stripped out hot hatches novas astras the van etc, but with a family it seemed a good excuse to finally get oneafter the V6 in the van i will never never never put one in anything else, ok it mucst of been about 200bhp, but ive never had anything drink fuel so much in my life,
and this is from someone who never cared before about MPG as long as it goes faster lmao
this is the most comfy thing i have ever had lmao to some people having 18 inch wheels, 35 profile tyres and -60mm suspension is a ruff ride, feeling every drain cover and cats eye in the road, but for me this is luxary by the standard of previous carsi love how big and spacious it is and the big diplomat sofa's
i could make it even more comfortable by having it with standard wheels and tyres and raising it up, but to be honest, then i wouldnt really like it lmao it goes ok thrashing round the countryside, its prob the heavest car ive ever had, so that took some getting used to wallowing around the b roads lmao
had a day out on the bike today but when we got back a had a little lookey in the back of the cav, and got some pics to show whats what
the space saver
because thats all the room there is
because its the 4x4 floor pan it has the tank under the boot floor not in the normal place
(bad) pic of the small acess hole already
and the problem i have in my purpose
would be fine in any other car with a full size wheel well
diameters fine
but heights not
got to find somehwere for the filler too
was thinking the shut maybe, as im not putting it in the 'normal' place in the quater, as that looks so gash lmao
heres my mums car done of the same single point system, it was done wayy back in 1998, way before they'd found how to compress the gas into suck a small cylinder succesfully, so shes got a massive tank, which holds the same amount as my wheel well tank
the usual place for a filler (GAY)
and heres it in her engine bay, 2.0 8v, its the round bit behind her rad, with a pip going to the air box, this is where the gas in injected on hers
so you see my size problem anyway for the tank anywayunder the engine bay is simple

Surely with your welding skills you can fabricate a tank?
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
hi there i had a cav turbo be for my gsi and that had a full size turbo rim as spare and boot carpet had slight rise in it to allow a bigger wheel hope that will help. and why fit lpg as u will have even less space in boot.
still dont see the point for people with tight wallets.lmao
When not fit it on a bracket in the boot next to the rear light panling? Save drilling a good hole.
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
MDF false floor to hide the tank? You'd loose some boot space but it would look neat and maybe you could ut the filler in a recess in the floor or under a flap in the false floor?
i think you could hide the filler neck in a door shut like they use to do on the nova's lol
I had a factory dual fuel vectra an dbefore that a professionally converted rover 620 (ewww but it was £125) What are the insurance implications of home converting them?

easy way is just to get cav turbo boot carpet, as its raised in middle to allow for bigger 16" wheel which will hide your lpg tank rather than making false floor, just a thought!
Needs to be a bit thicker than that id have thought to give protection to the tank when using the boot area?

DEVELOPMENTS
I made an MDF floor for my Astra, was easy peasy. Just stick the carpet to a big board and cut round it with a jigsaw. Stick some bits of wood underneath to lift the floor up, job done.
As for the filler... I suppose in an ideal world you'd have an identical filler cap on the other side of your car hiding the LPG port. Would be a bodywork nightmare though. No idea.![]()
Teeth? LUXURY! When I was a child we ate by putting rocks in our mouth and jumping up and down.
for insurance wise, (and possibly by law, but i dont know) you have to get them checked over by an approved LPG specialist, sort of a SVA for the gas and get written certificate for it. insurance costs didnt change at all for me old chaps cars, i havent actually rang my insurance yet, but hopefully it will be the same case.
so cav turbo boot carpet is flat the same as the floor and then just has a egg dome in the middle to accomidate the wheel? same as escort cosworths? maybe something to look at as wont loose the entire layer of floor space like it would be with a wole false floor. the tanks are very thick and robust, think of it like the orange gas canasters you get, or welding bottles, all the same things. like in my mums passat i put earlier, stuff just gets thrown in up against it.
ideally though i wanna save as much boot space as possible, as the gsi soloons have so much less boot space than the normal saloonsi should of just got a LS saloon and put a gsi kit and a XE in it, would be plain sailing then
lmao
that would be pretty cool idea jack lmao a filler each side, hack a quater secion out of another car, flip it over and weld it in, not impossable task, but too much effort to put into a runaround
can you not relocate the petrol filler to the door shut and the gas one to where the petrol filler is now?
I know this is just your run around but what sort of performance will it gain/lose (guessing lose?) also what sort of mpg will you be getting with it? Maybe its just around here or that i havnt been looking hard enough but i only know of one LPG fill up station near me, didnt think they were as popular as you've made them sound!
i did relocate the filler into the door of my nova years ago, prob be a bit harder in a cavalier if you look how far the filler cap is away from the rear door. im not too woried about the filler position as it can go practically anywhere, a whole load easier than moving the petrol filler as it only needs a little 8mm copper pipe to it and can go round corners and up and dowm which the massive petrol pipe cant. can even be lower than the tank, have seen some bolted next to the tow bar, like a extra tow bar socket, possible an option too.
you do have slight loss in power compared to petrol, but i think that is partly to do with the single point injection design, they say its about 85% of you petrols power, so thats about 130+ishbhp on a XE, so plenty for a family car. you can get fully mappable ECU's for LPG systems so you can fine tune them to get the power up, and multi point injection LPG kits, but no its not quite as much as petrol, but not much that your really going to miss it! and miles per gallon is down slightly compared to petrol too,but i think my ol chap still gets 30mpg on his 2.0 8v passat, although that is with some very grandad driving lmao
yea alot of service stations do have it now you just dont notice, most are incorperated into the petrol pumps themselfs too. ive got one 5 miles away from me at martlesham BP, in a 10 mile radius there's 2 shell garages with LPG, and a morrisons garage, and pretty much all main road services do these days. its very likely there are alot of fill up 'black spots' around the country, but im pretty lucky around my way. there are LPG websites around showing all the fill up points around the country which are handy if your on a road trip on away somewhere.
Jonlem used to install LPG conversions iirc.
Back in the scene
sweet jesus £60 for all that lot!?!And you didn't have to bring any geezers to take it off him lol!!lmao
Good stuff though, cant beat cheap cruising!
i wonder how long it'll be untill the government start taxing the **** out of lpg and bring it to same price as petrol![]()
78 Kadett C 2.0 8v turbo
How much does the inspection cost after you fitted it yourself? I have a kit in the shed but Im loathe to use it and then find myself uninsured in an accident so Id wan to get it inspected and declared.
Otherwise tis pretty good to use, the power loss is insignificant on the road IMO, just a shame one cant skim a chunk off the head and advance the timing.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... "f*ck, what a trip!"
ok cheers i'll pm for some imsider info
yea certainly was a bargain, it was only me any 1 other person bidding, if he wasnt there i would of got it for the start bid of 25quid lmao
the goverment actually backs LPG as its a 'green fuel', and has put a tax hold on it for another 5 years. thats me, a eco worrior, unlike all you ozone killing petrol yobs lmao
i beleive it is 100-200 quid for a full inspection, i've still to check my local LPG place yet to ask them, but its somewhere around there as they do have to check every wire, every conection and every pipe to declaire it all safe. its something that deffo needs to be declaired, espically with compressed gas cylinders in your car, the police can ge get funny about carrying gas cylinders in the car at the best of times without the warning triangles etc so if you ask me it would be ****ing stupid to put it in and not declaire it, its hardly a set of LED side lights.
yea the power loss is insignificant, on my mum and dads cars you cant feel ant difference in 'pull' at all between petrol or gas. i will prob get it on a rolling road some time to see the actual difference in figures between the two fuels though![]()
