the gsi and turbos (cavs with IRS) have a one piece bench base, but all the other cavs, diplomat included, have two piece rear bench base.

i am loving the fuel ecconemy of the cav. i did a pretty much identical run recently in both the van (to billing) and the cav (to gatwick airport) both driving exactly the same, steady cruise and not a single race... and the van was averaging 25mpg and the cav was averaging 38mpg

i certainly dont miss seeing that fuel light on in the van lmao

can't you just cut the hinge's off the old base and weld them onto the two piece base?

the seats are totally differnt, the 'non IRS' seats are two piece and hinge forward, the 'IRS' rear seats are one piece long bench and of totally different construction underneith, the floor is totally different at the back and theres no supports or anything at the back where the two pieces come together even if i was to somehow get hinges at the front.

have found a cav turbo rear bench though so thats sorted

    I love Cav GSI's

Sorry its a bit late but just another bit of advice regarding the switches, If the one touch up or down is not working, maybe due to the battery being disconnected, then open them, and hold the button to close them and when it reaches the top keep holding the button for about 5 seconds or so. This should re activate the one touch operation.

When I knock the battery off the Vectra, it needs a few ups and downs before the one touch will work again.

Close window with button, let button off, then hold it down again for 3 secs and you will hear it click,

The your auto windows are activated, I'm always having to program them at work.

Re: Ronnie's New Family Car - Cavalier GSI :)

little bit of progress, there a bit of clonking on the cav, suspension wise, so i got it back in the unit

picked up a pair of pretty much brand new arms from billing for 20quid as i new they'd come in handy some time.. and they have lol

always th first point of call, lowered 60mm on 18s.... ****ed bottom ball joints, so took the drivers one off and its got a massive slab of metal bolted onto it any one know what thats all about? not seen one like that before??

well didnt have any holes on the new arms so ****ed it off.

    shiney new bits on

alao some bits that came with the car where two engine mounts in the boot, so jacked the engine up to investigate why it came with new ones

and found out why lmao heres the old drivers side and passenger side front mounts

so that might of been some of the clonking from the front end too lol

and also in the boot where the rest of the kit for the hids, as they were just cable tied in the front pannel

so unclipped and found the nice shiney boxes

the back of the headlights where also in the boot, as you coldnt fit them with the HIDs, so drilled some holes in them so you could

and all fitted in with the brackets

and they gave it a nice colour magic again as it was sucking it in

hopefully meeting SteveM monday and picking up a black dash, black door cards, black sill trims, black centre conol, heated seat buttons, omega sun roof buttons, full closure bits, and also swapping my diplomat rear bench with DanBoyles who has a turbo rear bench

so then that'll be the interior all finished.. all ready for baby sick lmao

Nice work mate, I heard that the metal bit on the wishbone is a balance weight. They are fitted on Mk2 cav's aswell, I can't say I have ever seen on on a mk3 either. Im not 100% sure though mate.

Re: Ronnie's New Family Car - Cavalier GSI :)

nice looking cav, deffo a good idea getting rid of the beige interior, ive stripped a coupe of gsi's and a turbo so i have loads of spares bits and bobs, if theres anything ya need let me know,

i know mods arent a major thing, but i would get a set of vectra door handles and get them colour coded, just cleans up the lines of the doors no end, and a set of mk4 astra side repeaters, much nicer than the oval ones youve got on at the mo, also on the inside, take a look at the omega elite rear view mirror conversion, self tiniting and electricly adjustable once wired in properly, if ya going for the luxury spec!!
