Mk3 van, (that was meant to stay std)....

Well i thought i'd start a thread of my mk3, Love the fun of the corsa let but it's just not practial as i fish alot, & i'm in the building trade so fishing gear & tools are tight fit in the back of the corsa, So i decided to get a mk3 van that was ment to stay std, lmao.
Plans for the van are c20let, Gsi body kit, full blow over (white), lower & alloys, black interior & elec windows, rear ply lined & small system build,

After driving the 1.7td back home from picking it up i got about 1 mile & the decision was made the c20let from the corsa is going to have to go in, lmao. So i'm going to brake rest of the corsa & keep running gear, wheels for the van....

Right here is the 1.7td beast with a low blow turbo that i really think is a no blow lmao...

Next job was the arches the chap i had it off painted under seal over them & imho made it worse, I'm no body panel master but have a ruff idea so i had ago my self arches was cut away, new ones spot welded on filled, primed, painted etc did use rattle cans but they don't go very far so used my comp & spray gun in the end, Paint is abit brighter than the old as i blew in the whole panel, (Thanks benn for advice), But will get a whole blow over when finished & have cash....

lmaolmaolmao yeah the wheels on it at the moment are std steels with wheel trims some people mite like them but i'm not one of them, They are on just to move van around wheels off my corsa will be going on...
Right now it's time to start on the appearance of the van as above i'm going for mk3 gsi body kit (i.e) front bumper (big mouth), gsi grill, gsi skirts, gsi bonet (black),
First off i got rid of the std black plastic bumpers i'm awaiting my front gsi bumper so i got a rear bumper off an estate & painted it white, Also fitted a punto rear wiper & got rid of the 16ft aerial,Bump strips & the go faster two tone stripes was removed aswell,

Next on the list was ride height I had some astra springs off a mate of mine for £40 the fronts was sweet lowered the van by about 50mm but the backs did not seem to make much difference, So while down local scrappy i seen a calibra with g-max 30mm springs on the rear had them for a £10 & they lowered the van sweet at the rear,

Next was the wing mirrors the ones on the van had black plastic round ones on, so got the sqr style from scrappy for £10 & gave them a lick of paint,

Next on the list was side skirts so i got the skirts, Then had to get some clips, Now i could of just tiger sealed them on but that ain't me, so i took the time to work out where the clips would go as it's not a gsi model, Going to clip, tiger seal, self tap under sill, & also tiger seal jacking covers on as i don't use them jacking points & to stop peeps pulling them off,

Once clips was on i tiger sealed the self tapper heads just to stop them coming loose, I did the door section first as i had to trim it off as it's to long for a van, The off cut will be fixed with other section & then all smoothed along with the ends of the skirts,

All fitted just got to smooth filler & give rear part of the skirts & the ends of the door panels a lick of paint, After fitting arches i gave the inner rear arches & across the arches in side the van an under seal to prevent any rust or water getting in, N/S/R was ok pretty clean so quick wire brush & under seal was on, As for the O/S/R it was full of dirt all around the fuel hose etc so had to give that a good clean, The pile of dirt don't look that much in photo but it was,,

Thats pretty much it for now as i said i'm using my alloys off corsa, will be using the v6 front brake set up off the corsa as vans brakes are low, I've got the gsi grill, awaiting bumper, need bonnet ( if any one can help),,, Then i'll be moving on to the inside off the van up front & rear, will be running around as a 1.7td for a while as i'm rebuild a c20let but will also need bits of the corsa running gear,

Re: Mk3 van, ( that was ment 2 stay std)....

lmao no the alloy wheel in the first photos was some alloys i got for £20, I was just holding it in place to get a ruff idea of what the alloys will look like,

Did a bit more today but ran out of time, Because the skirts are made for 3 dr the plastic bit on the door was to long so i had to fix it to the door then cut off the rest which then gets moved to the rear section of the skirts, fixed & then you need to fill the gap, & also fill the ends of the strip as it would be open.. As i said i'm going to get it all painted at a later date so i just blew the rear skirts in with rattle cans...

Right apart from that not alot else has been done i'm awaiting the gsi front bumper, then i can fit that along with the grill, Still need to get a gsi bonnet, I have the vents but don't want to fit them to a std bonnet, Then i might start getting some prices to have it blew over, not the bonnet as thats going to be black, Might even self prep if it keeps the cost down....

Re: Mk3 van, ( that was ment 2 stay std)....

Next plans over next few days or week is to fit bumper ( when it comes), fit grill, Try alloys on the rears & see if the lip on the arch needs trimming off ( fingers crossed it don't), Then it's a case of getting some ply line board & making a start on the rear inside, will run amp & sub leads as i go, Think i'm going to get rid of the plastic bit on the tail gate, Swop it for ply & fit my 6x9's in there, Might run a few extra boot light down the inside of the ply about 3 down each side, sort of a down light effect lmao. Then i'll hit a few scrap yards & try to find some black door cards, matt, basic trim bits, & dash most from a hatch or 5dr,
I'm also after the grey carpet that they wrap disco speakers in to go over the ply once in, Also need to take grid off back window, get glass tinted ( see out but not in stuff) then going to put grid back up some of the locals like to look in your cars around here with out opening doors lmaolmao...

Re: Mk3 van, ( that was ment 2 stay std)....

Been busy today but did manage to get down our local b&q & get some self tappers & thin like 3mm card ( cheap lmao),& have an hour or so on the van, Gave the back of the van a good clean & vac before i started, I also sealed & under sealed the arches from the inside just to stop any water getting flicked in from the wheels when wet,

This is the back of the van all clean & ready to start work,

Right the plan is to board the lower sections but not right to the back as i need access to the rear lights & the board will not bend around the bend at the rear, I'm not 100% weather to board the top of the sides in one or just do the 3 individual sqr sections which will have a rear boot light from a corsa in each one at the bottom of the board, So when the boot is open you will get a small shine from each board into the rear of the van, I'm also in to minds weather to insulate the roof with a thin insulation then board it as it gets very loud in heavy rain,
Up front i'm just using half of an head board but abit thicker incase what ever is in the back slides forward under hard braking, Once all fitted i'm looking to cover in some sort of material like what they use for speaker boxes etc, The head board section will be black leather imitation fabric only on the cockpit side lmao. cockpit i sound like top gun lmaolmaolmao....

    Heres the rear so far,,

Yeah i've always loved vans, & seeing the likes of yours (RC) & others have twisted my arm big time, Real tight on money at the moment with getting layed off work so just doing things when i can, Will be alot happier when it's been fully painted as the different shades of white bug me like you won't belive, But once saved i'll get some quotes, Not 100% sure of how much a blow over will cost, don't think i'm going to have internals done & think i'll self prep to save money & to take off serton bits that some times get left on & masked around lmao...

Re: Mk3 van, ( that was ment 2 stay std)....

Well just a little up date for you all to see, Been busy over last week/ few days so not got much done really, What i do know is that it has been fine in the day & every time i get to the van in the afternoons it starts fcuking raining ARRHHHHH!!!
Well gsi bumper turned up but was in need of lots of TLC due to the fixing points being abit batterd & fronts was missing all together but with the help of an old plastic std bumper, Tiger seal & self tappers all was good in the end,

So here is the gsi bumper & grill.

Sorry for the photos but due to weather being sh!te & dull they are alittle dark, I have the toe cover just not fitted it yet, I'm also in to minds on what number plate to have std which will fix to the mesh in the big mouth, Or to go for a sqr & fix it just to the side of the big mouth,
I also fitted my wheels off the corsa to one side of the van just to get a good idea of the ride height & to see if the lip on the rear arch cleared the wheel as alot of people said it would need cutting off, I'm not sure if it's because i'm running 16" rims but it clears sweet,

Few shots of the van with wheels on.

I did fit clear side repeaters but think i'm going to change them for my black ones, Joined MK3OC this week & think i've done a deal on a gsi bonnet (fingers crossed) which will be getting a lick of gloss black once fitted, A part from that, Thats pretty much it really hope to get it on the road next week or so & then i'll be doing the rest as i'm using it...

lmaolmao as i'm new to astras, i did not know about the angle on the head lights when using gsi grill with phase 2 head lights (correct me if i'm wrong) so had to go scrappy & get phase 1 lights iirc, Only to get back & relise i had picked up to left lights lmaolmao DOH !!

Re: Mk3 van, (that was meant to stay std)....

Well at last i've found time to update been real busy last few weeks & every time i go to do work on the van it hammers down, Any way it's going on the road next weekend can't tax it till then as it sorn, & they will back date me a month for not waiting a week, lmaolmao.
Right well had a ding dong with a bmw saterday in the corsa, gave him death then spatt 3rd & 5th gear out of the box lmaolmao. So its parked up ready for braking, So got no wheels for a week so been getting van summet like,
First off was to finish off boarding & carpeting the rear of the van went pretty well to be fair, going to have my vibe sub in the back don't want anything to big plus it kicks out good bass anyway.... I left the white hoops in aswell as they will come in handy for me for tieing stuff down...
I also run the wires for the lights that will be down the inside of the van to the rear light...

Just got to give it a good vac & sand down arches then give them another lick of gloss black, some of the backing off the carpet got stuck to them lmao....
Next i fitted the 288mm v6 brakes off the corsa onto the van along with the alloys, (pics of brakes soon), Then i moved onto fitting the gsi bonnet which i had off mk3oc (Thanks to micky & benn-chiles for sorting that), Gave it a spray up in gloss black then it went on along with water jets & under bonnet blanket.
Also fitted the front number plate & the front toe eye cover also fitted the black side repeters off the corsa....

Right was rained off from work one day last week so went to scrappy & got black dash & centre console, Some black trim door cards & electric window motors & loom, I will need to spray one part of the trim myself as i can't find it in black, Its the part that covers the seat belts, I did get black carpet aswell but it started to piss down & in a mad rush i left it behind Doh lmaolmao..
Any ways i found out the van has elec window loom already & the wires for the heated seats which is a bonus as i'm going to use calibra leathers up front, I just had to change the loom in the door side & fit fuses...
Hear it is as it stands at the moment, ( How i never kicked fcuk out the dash today i don't know) lmaolmao...
Just starting to take out the old, I also been told they rust behind the seats so i took the chance to underseal behind the seat today to stop any future rust & welding as it was quit clean & rust free lmao..

Thats pretty much it for now i did get the black dash in but did not have time for pics,
keep up the good threads & i'll update again soon....

Re: Mk3 van, (that was meant to stay std)....

Well how long has it been, I've been real busy with life lol, Also took time out to strip the corsa which has gone now, Not a great deal has been going on with the van just been getting all the little jobs out the way so enough chit chat lets get on with the mofo...

First off the 288 brakes was fitted & i also got round to fitting the vents in the bonnet..

Right next on my hit list was to rubdown & repaint the inner arches as they got ****ty with all the carpet glue etc, & When i carpeted the rear i never did the holes where you get access to the rear lights so i've done them using black press studs incase i need to change bulbs etc..

Next up on the list the interior went in along with the elec windows, I also fitted the coin tray with heated seat switches & wired up the seats, ARRRRHH warm ass & back on cold mornings lmao....

Right with that done i had chance to take out the roof lining & the other plastics which i'm going to paint black & re-cover the roof lining with a black fake leather cloth, Also i'm going to do the door cards aswell, While i was doing this i did the board behind the seats with the black leather cloth aswell, Also i finished the carpet & boarding in the rear just had two little sections up the front that needed doing.....

Wanted to tint the rear window aswell but before i could get any prices on having it done i found this bute down the local scrappy, Rear door with tinted glass & even had the cage fitted.

Well thats about it realy for the van the out side is pretty much done so i just need to get it preped then can start getting prices for a respray,
Apart from that i'm waiting for my block to cum back from re-bore had it took out to 86.5mm then it's just a case of rebuilding the c20let while i'm searching for other parts,

    Quick spec,

going c20let 86.5mm wossner pistons, not sure how mad to go on the build (i.e) apr's, rods, etc etc, I do have a f28 & would like a slipper fitted, also running phase 2 chips but have std k16 turbo set up not sure weather to upgrade, Rest is just the norm, going alloy rad, s/s exhaust, petrol tank ( swirl pot), 10mm 4 core leads , adjustable fuel reg, would like to go light weight fly wheel,

Could go on & on & on really, Just got lots of saving to do as c20let's = Ka-Ching ££££££££, lmaolmao..

keep up the good work guys & girls...

Arch repair and paint job look great! Gotta say I'm not a fan of the black bonnet tho.
Why not retrim the inner arches in the back in carpet?
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
