    Re: Project "Monty"

Update time as usual, bit of a late one and a large one as i never had chance to do it over the weekend like a normally do anyways on to the pictures like normal

Earlier in the thread i tried the malt vinegar trick, which worked a treat on parts that weren't painted here the bits i did fresh out the vinegar after one night

Then i took the core plugs out of the block

Then i cracked on building the head up as its sat on the kitchen side

Fitted new steam seals, valves already been lapped in fitted valves and hva's

Then i "bagged" the front end ready for the work to begin underneath

Then my new -31 actuator came in the week from "Scooby"

Then i did more bits with the spray gun and picked a few bits up from vaux

Then I removed fuel tank and rear beam

I have taken the carbon canister off, so i no longer need the breather that goes back past the fuel tank and up to the filler neck, what have people done here? just block the connection on the filler neck or leave it venting to atmosphere?

Connection on filler neck, what have people done then?

    Then i focused on underneath

First to degrease and remove all dirt and get rid of any rust

    50/50

    More cleaning

Then i removed all the rust and then etched, seam sealed, primed and stone chipped

left that to dry! So i cracked on with the engine

I already cleaned the block earlier in the week and painted it

    Fitted new core plugs

Then i fitted the crank with new glyco bearings

Then I connected the conrods and pistons

    Thats all for now

    Cheers Dale

I used Silicone remover on the underneath to get rid of any grease and dirt! then Primed rubbered down, etched any bare metal, primed, stone chipped and finally sprayed!

The stone chip finish was nice as i used the gun at about 2 bar creating the original finish (orange peal) but it was flat as it is over paintable, which is what i wanted!

    Re: Project "Monty"

Had some more time over last 2 days to crack on with monty again, pictures as normal

First off i sprayed the underside and rear arches as the stone chip finish was matte finish!

Then i sprayed the gearbox and inlet manifold but decided I chose the wrong colour and it looked like it was still primer Shame as the finish was nice but it was annoying me

Back to the paint suppliers and I then chose this colour which i'm really happy with

Then I took all the sheet off

Then time to crack on with the engine

First off I fitted the pistons/conrods

Then ARP Studs with Cometec 1.3 head gasket

Head all torqued up and spare rocker cover fitted to stop **** getting on the engine

Thats all for today, I'll carry on from where I left off tomorrow

    Re: Project "Monty"

    Got more done today

First off was fitting the output shaft seals

This is the propper tool we use at work (Same as mini's)

Next up was fitting the z20let oil pump

First off remove the wrong seal and fit the correct seal

Then fitted steveboyslim's pick up pipe

Found out that the z20let oil pump uses M8 bolts (2x M8x25mm Cap head screws) and M6 for the rest to the block (12x M6x20mm) I had to drill the 8v baffle plate and alloy sump to allow M8 cap screws to go through

Fitted dust cover and bottom pully

Then Fitted water pump and New cam belt and timed engine up including XE inlet cam, I have retarded the XE cam by 6 Deg!

    More tomorrow

    Re: Project "Monty"

Bit a late update but here goes

Pictures of cambelt on and timed up with inlet retarded

Then fitted steveboyslim's lightened pot flywheel with LUK clutch (haven't upgraded as clutch is pretty much brand new)

Checked in a few boxes for bits in previous conversions found brand new set of genuine engine mounts (all 3) and all 4 genuine cv boot kits

Then gearbox on and time to get it in the car

Then i fitted the turbo with cossie actuator

Then Fitted oil cooler and mounts

    Intercooler on

fitted the webber fuel pressure regulator

Fitted throttle body, Top hat and started and all the hoses

Then i started on the wiring and tidying the looms up

cleaned filler neck and front arch liners

Goodridge Brake hoses with the stainless option for fitments

Does anyone know if the standard reticulation valve works ok on evo5 software?

Fitted all brake pipes and headlamps!

    Hopefully more in the week
