MK3 Astra Estate - The tidy up!

I've been thinking about giving back the company car recently. And then this car came up locally! So I acquired an Astra Estate 1.7TD at the beginning of the week. Collected it on Monday evening from Pete on MIG (pdhunt). Its not a show car by any means, but its practical and cheap to run....so it ticks the right boxes for me.

When I got it, at the top of the replacement parts wanted list was a new wing and drivers side seat subframe.

So, on Saturday morning I popped down to my local scrap yard. I could not believe my luck when I turned up....check out what had just arrived!



...it hadn't even made it into the yard yet! Anyhoo I didn't ask about it straight away (I wasn't even sure if it was going to be scrapped or just someones car parked up lmao) but after finding a subframe on another car, I did find another red MK3, however, the wing had a knock on it so I wasn't keen. So whilst paying for the subframe I asked about the car out front, telling the scary scrapyard owner that I needed a wing in that colour....see below for the outcome:

I also had the entire front grill away whilst I was at it, for £5, which I thought was good.

So I fitted the subframe this morning, in the process I found a £2 coin in the car, so technically I was paid £2 to take it away

The wing will probably get fitted tomorrow. The next plan is to get the flame pink back to flame red. I would also like to replace the interior carpet as it has seen better days.

Well I have fitted the new wing, but annoyingly can't find any pics.

I also started to have a play with some clay for the first time and some Autoglym SRP and Paint Renovator. Bare in mind this is my first go and I only did this by hand, hardly applying any elbow grease whatsoever lol...

Its still currently my backup motor, as I'm no closer to knowing whats happening with my company car. I am holding back from spending big money on it at the moment for a couple of reasons...one being my Coupe has just chewed its turbo and needs some money chucking at it!!

If it does replace the company car, it will indeed get some subtle Vauxhall alloys and quite possibly a bit of GSI treatment....Oh and it would get slammed!! I won't touch/change the engine though (bar maybe a bit of extra boost), as the main reason I wanted it was for the cheap diesel economy. I am quite surprised how well it pulls actually, seems a very strong lump.

If I DID get a conversion twitch, it would most definitely be a V6.
