    mk3 astra gsi track

    mk3 gsi track car.

    hi everyone

i Have owned this car a few years and then last year i decided to turn it into a track car. il list the spec for everyone now and some pics.

engine stock apart from power cap, green cotton pannel filter and janspeed manifold and a 2.5" exhaust made be myself.
has spax psx dampers and springs lowered 30mm. front and rear strutt braces.
stock calipers with ferodo ds 2500 pads and black dimond combi discs, goodridge hoses and ap 551 brack fluid. stock rear set up.
interior stripped out. cobra evolution drivers seat and sparco rev passenger. sabelt 6 point belts, b&m short shift.
running cav gsi wheels for now. track wheels have yoko a005s.

hope people like it. I dont know why more people dont use the mk3 as a track car the have strong engines and boxes all you need is a good suspension set up and sme good tires, they really do make a massive difference. The local car club owner in his 380bhp nissan dream boat holds me up round cadwell park. if i can help anyone with anything just ask, i dont know everything but am happy to help.

    thanx neil

yeah finding stuff is a pain for the mk3, its seems it was over looked by everyone so there isnt much about (even less engine wise when its a c18xe like mine) but agree they are cracking cars and when the handling is sorted, you cant fault them.

sat on gmax shocks and 40mm springs at the mo and to be fair, they aint done too bad for the money. but they are going to be changed this year for probably blisterns shocks (or koni's if i can get some at the right price) and some stiffer springs. im also using omp from and rear upper strut braces which help stiffen things up but im going to be looking at a cage soon also. theres a guy not too far from me that makes cages for rally cars so going to pay him a visit soon to see what he can do for me.

ive got a gsi i was about to strip and put the engine in a corsa for track use, how do they compare to xe corsas etc on the track. The weight of the astra has always bothered me. What size wheels do you reccomend for track use guys

    Re: mk3 gsi track car.

tbh, its quite a quick car and on par with a corsa imo not much heavier and as said, sort the handling and your laughing. ive run 14's, 15's, 16's and 17's on my astra and imo the 15's were the best for handling, but as im planning on going bigger with my brakes, im going to be running on the 16's as they work good for me.

    Re: mk3 gsi track car.

well for one the chassis of the astra is desighned to take the power coras aint. and the only corsa i saw on track was very very understeery, just to much weight up front. astra is perfect wheelbase and width. I run 15" wheels turn in is better than big wheels, good feel through tires cos you have some side wall and tires are cheaper. but every one to there own.

    Re: mk3 gsi track car.

good i wanna see more mk3s on track. and i dont know why everyone wants let power, its not really much good round track just more weight and you dont want to be coming on peak boost mid corner cos you will just fall off the track, there ok if you do drag racing and pose on the road but NA is mans power on track.

Nice GSI, good to see it being tracked!! I disagree with the LET bit though. flying past things that are supposed to be alot quicker then a GSI is always fun! NA is poofs powerlmao
Heres a wee pic of mine.
    Now running 15's with R888's

    mk3 astra gsi track

    Re: mk3 gsi track car.

well cmac86 everyone to there own but this car is goin to be a sprint/hillclimb car so let power is out of the question. but i think the motor i am building at the min should be fun (est 250bhp).
but i know a lad with a 320bhp mk3 gsi let and it is very very fast but its just to much wheelspin to make proper use of the power. get some a005. r888 go off to fast!!!!
