if going to mount the box to see where the motor is going to sit, id luk at maybe tacking a couple of pieces of 1inch box or half inch solid bar across the car, and with a MK1/2 escort Large tranny tunnel, mark your floor out, and cut it out, than way you can keep the car straight, and be able to play with mounting the box/engine.

Is putting the cage in and then cutting the floor out an option?

theres not going to be any problems with the car folding in half when i cut the floor out, as long as i dont do anything stupid like jack it up on one corner or anything. there's two options for the tunnel, wither use a sierra tunnel (makes sence as its a sierra box) or make a mini 'spaceframe' tunnel, as the guy with the cossied mk2 did

right went down to the unit this morning, christmas day bla bla bla lmao

time to take the engine out of the astra, 2 reasons, it needs to have the block crack addressed, and adding oil squiters, and 2 its got a very expensive FWD gearbox on ready to sell!

inlet and bits off (that shant be returning )

    and everything else off

just engine mounts then its ready to come out, getting to good at this, engine ready to come out in an hour  lmao

had to come back for christmas dinner now tho

are you going to cut a tunnel out of a sierra or buy one new from likes of hadrian panels?

the larger mk1/2 escort tunnels clear the type 9, and t5 boxes, cheap and easy to work with.

Go and grab it off him! It's not as if you've got nowhere to store it! lmao You might find some other useful bits on it too, and it might be worth looking at the front legs/rack...etc.

Re: Ronnie's project RWD :D - mk3 astra gsi turbo rear wheel drive ;)

went back down after christmas dinner!

started getting the engine out, one mount off

    and the rest

not an easy job all on ya own lmao

    gearbox and clutch off

gearbox ready for andy a2 in exhange for some more moneys for project rwd

    and an empty bay

but it seems to like the idea of its new home

so end of an era for this set up!

some people were asking for comparesens between the old GT28r and the new T38

theres not alot in it size wise

the inlets are the same, maybe a tiny bit smaller on the new one

but the insides are a whole lot different

    sweet update

have you decided what you are going to be doing with the block yet??

was flicking through the frost catalogue the other day and there was a few products in there that sounded good, carnt remember the names of them. i know you have tried it but just a suggestion.

got two options really, not going for any stick on puttys as ive tried loads now, the pressure is just too much!

i have got a spare block, but that would be starting from scratch, needing an over bore, need fully cleaning out, block decking etc, and is an unknown c20let block, the other option is to keep my block, one that has had all the work done to it and i know is a spot on block, apart from the cracked take off, and have the oil gallery where the take off is sleethed, it will need milling out to make sure its perfectly true and have a pipe put in, so wont be using the block's casting as the oil gallery now, will be using this tube inside it, totally loking off the cracked union.

the company that built up my bottom end is very confident in this method, they use it alot on mini engines where the cylinderes are bored out so much the wall between them and the oil galleries become too thin and they sleeth these the same, he siad he can bench pressure test it and will make sure he can garrentee it. the engine needs to be dismantled for the addition of oil squirters, so the milling out of the gallery can be done then, where it will be a bare block.

Sounds like option B might be the way to go, especially if you've got an engineering company that are confident doing it and are happy that it will work. Better the devil you know!

You certainly don't hang about when it comes to whipping stuff apart!

It's easy enough out the top. Even easier if you take the bonnet off.
