Re: Ronnie's project RWD :D - mk3 astra gsi turbo rear wheel drive ;)

    more progess today,

started off grinding down the finished side

on a normal build like this you'd just seam sealer this all up, but as its all on show im gonna be filling and smoothing it all in nicely

but not gonna start filling till the cage is all in and fixed!

then started with the other side

    all unnesserys drilled off

    cut and cleaned up

    and in place

someone asked how i got the inner arches in the right place on the other side. as the inner arches are origional to the floor, i just lined the spot welds up again

and got a very nuce weld on this side if i do say so myself might even leve these bottom welds on show

then tacked the 2nd half of the arch in place

    and all welded in

had to weld in a plate again at the fron due to the angle the arch sits now, different tot he calibra, and double welded all the joints again

and double welded all the overlaps at the back too!

the helpfull tip from shanger about the holes needing to be blanked off as the arch will sit higher can be seen here

always easier doing the second one, and this side went much more straight forward as i new how to do it this time lol

    Awesome welding
    Jack said,

Surely you are only pulling it one way though? ie. you are pulling it along its length.

Going back to what you were saying about your F1 wheels, I knew someone that had the bolt holes welded up in his wheels and then re drilled to fit his stud pattern. (19's on a corsa b lol) Don't know how good (or safe) that sort of thing is but he did it and it worked. It's really a shame that you couldn't use your old wheels as they looked so good, thought this may be a solution! May be worth looking into.

Very nice work dude, will look great all smoothed.
Why have you exposted the stop welds along the window frames?

Re: Ronnie's project RWD :D - mk3 astra gsi turbo rear wheel drive ;)

    some more progress today

finished welding the last few joins and the turret on this side

then finished welding along the back pannel, spot weld holes and added bits in the corners

i added a bit of angle in the two corners as the calibra is alot wider at the rear so i had to cut the origional lip off

went out to my van to get a drink and wen i came back in i realised how smokey it had got in there lmao

so took the time to open all the unit doors and have a mid session tidy up as it was getting a bit of a tip

look like it needed it

then started grinding down the otherside down. need to get a compressor down the unit so i can use a powerfile to get down in the corners

started grinding down the weld where the floors been shortened, gonna leave them slightly raised and when i fill it all i'll make a 'rib' out of filler to cover it nicely and match all the other ribs in the floor

so structually the floor is now just about finished

pretty ****ing impressive if i do say so my self

left it at the today and took the engine out of my bike
