Aye Kev, have been keeping an eye on Bills spec. of engines. Will be considering one of his engines if the car isnt on the pace class wise. The 1600's are putting out good reliable horse power but want to stay with the 1400 class to begin with.
Think it will be four years this January since i bought the car so yes about bloody time it was finished. lol

Bills had a few clubby 1400 motors built and dyno run with impressive results for not a lot of money, mind you 4 years the car will be running historic spec soon lmao

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

Started to push on with the build this past week. Still got fibreglass boot and bonnet to paint and drivers door but occupied with bolting things together now which is slightly more fun.

Decided to change the struts at the front to gravel spec along with Grp. A rears.

    Changed to these.

Wish i could remember where everything goes?

Engine and gearbox now in the car instead of being on the garage floor. Still hoping to get the car entered for the Snowman rally on February 18th but will be a close call as plenty to do still.
Thanks to advice from Kev (Rallycorsa) i now have the inner wing inserts in place. Wish i had known that the lips needed cut out before the shell was painted. Nothings a straight fit with these cars without modifying things.

Making steady progress. Grinder was out again as inner wings needed modified as i decided to fit the Hockley engine mounts. Also managed to get the heated screen installed this week. New fuel lines arrived, thanks to Kev (rallycorsa) and also picked up full set of braided brake lines at the weekend. No Snowman rally though as car no where near ready and struggling to get a navigator.

Looks spot on. shell looks immaculate, wish my nova shell was as clean as this! Dont rush it to get to a rally, when its done it done. Id hate to finish my car and eneter a rally without alot of testing and checking. As you said above nothing is a straight fit and everything needs modified, good chance things will need altering etc. You think it will be done for the border counties (17th march) ?

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

Would like to think it will be done for the Border counties but Charterhall at end of March would also be a good test. As you say Angus, when its done its done. Once the car is all pebble dashed underneath i'll be happy.
Still need to get in date seats, fuel dry break coupling and another fibreglass boot. Already ordered a boot but came with no hinges so need to order one that does have hinges as dont want to destroy a steel boot just for the sake of two hinges.
The blue did look okay but the white is far easier to keep looking good as far easier to respray any damage along the way. My other car is the same colour, which is Toyota superwhite so i usually keep a stock of paint just in case.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

Some more progress made. After several conversations with Kev (rallycorsa) decided on what i considered the easiest way of routing the fuel lines as seemed a bit tight for space at the fuel pump end. Ended up with the following after Kev made up a set of fuel lines to the specification i required.

Bulkhead fittings on passenger side then ran down the tunnel and lost the extra length of the 2.7 m run under the seat.

At the pump end i decided to use straight through fittings which makes things easier when changing the pump in the future. Just need to make a seal where i drilled through.

The bonnet will not line up at the passenger side as the fittings for the screws are too far forward so will need to lengthen the holes at the mount. As usual nothings straight forward with these cars. Side kevlar guard required a fair bit of modification with the grinder to allow the door to close but happy now, just need to seal the edges.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

Dmack are supporting the Juniors in the Scottish championship along with royal aero hence the reason my lad is using this car instead of myself. Now got a navigator sorted from the Granite onwards to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Used the Dmack tyres on the front of the escort in place of the usual dunlops and they seemed to work fine for me though the tyres for the corsa will be a different tread so no idea how they will perform.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

The car's looking good, makes me want to build another one.
Those hoses through to the tank are a pain, hardly any room above the tank. I made the mistake of using bulkhead fittings which resulted in the car and tank needing modifying.
If you're going to change the pump in the tank, make sure you've got a new seal for the lid on the top of the tank because it swells with the petrol and you can't get it to seat again properly. Not good on an event.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

That explains why it took forever to get the seal for the lid to sit correctly. Did look at doing bulkhead fittings but realised would be a pain if needing to get in about the pump at a 20 minute service. Wanted to get away from threaded pump connections as in the heat of service you can bet that they will cross thread and not seal correctly.
Will no doubt bump into you at some point this season Kev though thats Navigator Number 2 bailed out tonight so back to hunting down a navigator again.

    Harry Hockly Motorsport Ltd

The car came with what i presume were the original 1.4 SRi mounts but have now been changed out for the Hockley mounts. (see link)
The Hockley mounts require a bit of cutting of the inner wings on both sides though so are not a straight fit.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

Polycarb windows now bonded in. Rear window bonded but put some rivits in at the top where its hidden by the spoiler and then one at each bottom corner. The bronze polycarbs comes without the black edging so needed to mask off and spray the inside of the window edges before fitting.
Not done a lot to the car this month though sorted out the fuel dry coupling and started on the brake hose runs. Bought the braided hoses of another rally prepared car but the hose lengths are all over the place and will need to refettle. Still got the exhaust to do and a spot of wiring in the engine bay before firing up.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

    Looks the part.
Where are your cill guards from? The gravel is giving the ones I have some abuse and I'll need another set in a couple of events. Yours look to be made with a different cloth to mine so I'd maybe give them a go. I'll probably get the next ones copied and made with the best kevlar cloth and resin I can get to see if they last.
Notice you've got tarmac tyres on so it maybe won't be as much as a problem to you.
I also noticed that there doesn't look to be any seats or belts in your car. If you're interested in any new Sabelt gear let me know what you'd like and I'll see what I can do.

    Re: Corsa 1.4 Rally Build.

Guards are a Kevlar carbon weave so have a different look to the plain Kevlar. Time will tell as to how they will withstand the Scottish forests. I bought all the guards from Ramsport and was pleased enough with agreed delivery time etc. Prices were good for the underfloor guards also.
Belt wise i am going to pinch the ones out my Mk2 escort as the date runs out at the end of the year for their use so might as well squeeze a few extra rallies from them.
I had Sabelt seats in the car that had only done two stages but these are now out of date as are the Magnum seats in the Mk2. Was thinking about Sparco Corsa seats as not too badly priced.
