Astra GSI 2 GSIT 56k Heavy

Hey Guys and Girls Some of you may remember my car from billing 08 it was parked on the main stand right at the back next to steves cav..

The full story of my cars can be found here ...

http://www.mk3oc.org/forum/showthrea...257#post278257

Any way here she is started life as a standard ish Red Top.

Then i started to play about adding..

288 mm vectra v6 brakes

Then came the calibra guages

Then came performance Vauxhall in the summer great show
The car went up against one of my friends Toyota Celicas again 2.0 16v

Couple of months passed with no problems then there was a "bang" driving home one night..

Basically a spark plug had managed to strip its self from the cylinder head fly across the engine bay and arc out on the battery blowing a hole in the top... .fun !!!

So head came off and was re built. new head gasket, cylinder head was helicoiled and then fully re built...

So then after a little running in period the engine was back running again....

Did a bit more work on the inside of the car

Then along came the MK3OC rolling road day

the car managed to pull
146.5 BHP
148.1 lb ft Torque
109.3 Bhp @the wheels

Not the best of Figures for a Redtop but o well...More power was needed

THEN ALONG CAME A CALIBRA TURBO lol

Sole purpose of the calira was for the engine ........
just to make sure that all was well i decided to use the calibra for a while just to make sure that all was well with the engine before the conversion began.

On the first day of having the calibra coming home from work i decided to melt two of the pistons...

So that engine then came apart

Then the rest of the engine came out of the calibra and went off to be re-built
i decided not to cut any corners with it so had every thing replaced including the notorious oil pump......

Then all was built up and ready to go so we loaded it all up in to my passat and trotted off to see drizz..

The conversion Begins

The Leaky C20XE comes out ready for the C20LET to go in..

Then the car was finally done..
Drizz was warming the car up to tempreture up and down his lanes the when he got back to his workshop there was smoke everywhere from an oil leak straight out of the oil pump and down on to the manifold.
Long story short the oil pump that was brand new was cracked !!!!
Where the oil pressure sender screws in to the pump it had cracked.
The pump was purchased from auto vaux and was a "pattern pump "

So the car was towed home from drizz work shop. and sat on the drive for the next week and half.

Back to the engine builders It went and using the shell of the orignal calibra pump the new internals were built in to it.. all good again and no leaks.

There is a Knocking noise coming from the drivers side Drive shaft so got under it at the weekend and had look (apologies for the pics it was not that high off the ground)
Basically where the 2wd conversion plate was fitted the sleeve was fitted backwards so i just need to take the shaft out and re-fit them.

So far i have done 680 miles running the engine in..

In have brought some split shafts from ebay and am currently having the boost hoses made up by sfs performance. Then i can fit my FMIC and the build can carry on .....

Watch this Space ..................

Re: Astra GSI 2 GSIT 56k Heavy

looks nice, good to see a properly built up engine going in, not some 100k+ smoker that seems to be the norm for most people.

Re: Astra GSI 2 GSIT 56k Heavy

ok busy day today ......

purchased some split drive shafts from the bay . arrived at work on thursday so today i got round to fitting the split side......

Aslo went shopping on wednesday night Purchased a set of boost hoses in red from SFS Performance just round the corner from work in luton.

Hopefully tommrrow going to get my intercooler fitted fingers crossed......

the shaft on the right is the orignal one that was sticking out of the box..
Left one is the new split shaft going on to the car..

Also brought some exhaust pipe going to use this to make up the pipes for the intercooler running between the silicon hoses. so set about painting it. i think the black will go well with the red. Had my very own team halfords BTCC mechanic do this for me

Then finally as it got dark i managed to get the car back on the ground and take it out for a drive before the fog came down its really bad at moment...

Should be able to get another update tommrrow with the intercooler fitted hopefully !!!!
