    Lol!

FINALLY - got my 360 degree bits in the post.
The guy had some computer issues, losing a load of orders or something, so 2 and a half weeks late but late is better than never

Very impressive engineering on the thrust plate, specially the oil channels that are different in design, i can see how it's meant to be an upgrade

    360 compared to standard:

    and the standard one:

Can't wait to get it built! Major uni deadline monday though, so no exciting turbo developments for now

thanks carmad yeah, it's fun when you're in the right mood lmao

    Update time
Got my rotating bits back from balancing at AET turbos! The work they did was top-notch for a good price - £50 for what you see below but i was told 'it's scrap', which i was not too pleased to hear, since the turbo was a fully functioning unit which was miles better wear-wise than my old one. Then he went on to try to sell me a re-manufactured shaft&wheel with oversize bearings for more than a hundred notes. Didn't get the exact amount tbh, wasn't really listening
Fair enough there are some dents in the turbine wheel and some wear on the shaft, but the dents balance out and won't affect the performance, and the shaft wear, well, is quite small.
We'll see what happens with it. i have a feeling they don't really like working on these as much as a nice sale with a half decent unit in exchange lmao

    MMMmm!!! yumyum

    all marked

    some of the balancing

    new gasket

    all back together

    new bolts&retaining plates

    nice!

so, overall well pleased with their work!
They even worked on the compressor wheel taking some of the little marks out

It's now ready to go on, spins freely with no play.

all back on the car tomorrow hopefully yayy

    Re: 1978 Kadett C 2l 8v Turbo Adventures...

    Lol,
Thought that to be honest, it must be hard for a big company like that to stay afloat doing balancing for £50 with so much work being involved, much rather sell me something and be done with it!. But they did do a top notch job so i'll recommend them to everyone, as itwas recommended to me also!!

It all went on yesterday, started out at about 11 and finished at 5ish in the dark and coldness, nasty nasty stuff working out on cars in the winter

anyway, don't have many pics as i was trying to get it finished as soon as poss, it was the last thing i wanted to be doing on my 22nd birthday lmao, but OMG what an awesome present .

    Anyway, some pics here:

    new gaskets:

(took the pic before i realised that the holes dont match up d'oh)

assembled the head with the inlet, tb etc, and the exhaust manifold with the turbo attatched in the common room, carried it out and plonked it on!. Damn i love this 8 valve stuff lmao.

then replaced all the rings and seals on the injectors, with new hats too!

    it's back in place:

and then lined up the cam pully with the marks i made for the timing.

    ivesys tip of the day:
mark the pully at more than 1 point, as the more points there are, the easyer and more confident a match you get when re-assembling it all. Also reduces chance for human error by mis-judging the marks.

ivesys tip of the day #2:
    re-installing cam belt:
On the 8v engine, when re-installing the head and top end, put the top bits on, torque it down. Then put the belt on the pully and offer the pully up to the cam. If the hole matches the dowel, tighten the pully slowly with the belt on already, slowly the belt will get tight and take out the slack, and when it's fully done up you'll have the exact same tension it did before removal, and you didn't have to touch the bottom pully or water pump .

So took it for a blast and it was immense! Turbo's spooling so much sooner, smoother and with less lag. Just feels so much better. Oh and NO smoke . hooray!.

All was not well however, when the speedbumps of stafford claimed another casualty:

only went to tescos to get some cake and aspirin lmao

it totally ripped the backbox apart, i must have hit one of the square ones down the middle when trying to see past my misted up windscreen

luckily we pulled in to a carpark and the backbox was just laying there on the road, which i saw when the girlfriend spotted a car stop in the middle of the road and a person getting out lmao

    ****ing bastard things.

So monday i'm getting the pipe tidied up so it doesn't hang so low, and the ashley box from the tigra put on. I kinda fancy the powdercoated black back box look, a nice change from the 3" carbon space cannon hanging off the back lmao

So no dorrifto vids i'm afraid dave though i did have a little sideways goof leaving tescos, had to make myself feel a little better about things . I'll just mention the car park was empty at this point

    Re: 1978 Kadett C 2l 8v Turbo Adventures...

DORIFTOOO! later, when it's properly sorted and when i can afford to break it

i'll get some vids when i have my tripod sorted .

    For now, some updates
got this amp off ebay for 99p, afterwards finding out that it's this bloke's who i met in the summer on the Student Brake Away trip, madness ..

The plan is - to have the amp and bits under the passenger seat, nice and low. Then i'll build a couple of light speaker pods for the footwells and use the light OE tigra/corsa speakers no need for stereo either - laptop/ipod to amp to speakers so the idea is to add as little weight as possible but make it a little road friendly.

1 heavy bugger. Lighter than a stereo head unit but only just.

rigged it up off my computer's PSU

    pull it apart:

choppy chop (getting rid of the middle section as it's unnecessary weight)

forgot to take a pic of what it looks like without the panel, basically a big hole in the middle lol!

then off to sort my exhaust:

got under there and had a butchers at the state of the shell, all looks solid only a couple of patches of welded metal on the boot floor.
lucky i was to find a few correctly sized jubilee clips in my took box right after the exhaust fell off hahah

    weldy weldy

and how it looks with the new backbox - much better, much more subtle
gave it a wash today, so took some pics afterwards (bloody white cars get dirty quick dont they )

Gotta give props to the chaps at AA - i turned up and whilst i did have to hang about for a few hours and move it on and off the ramp a couple of times, they did a top job fitting me in and took their time and care welding it, didnt start untill i was completely happy with how it sat .. Made a few hangers for the middle pipe too, as it only hung off the backbox and turbo housing before
Also pulled the system up tighter to the bottom of the car, hopefully will give me a few more mill to lower the front

All vauxhall nuts, and the young 'apprentice' lol had gotten himself a chevette to do up for a first car, top man

Sounds soooo nice with the Ashley box . Less loud, less raspy, just a nice deep tone, much better on the motorway, less exhaust more engine FTW

After driving 160 miles, turns out the system was a little too tight to the chassis at one point, it was banging up against it at cruise, so i bent a big 'hook' out of steel bar and bolted it to the engine block which pulls the pipe closer to the engine, all nice and good now

    looking much better
