    Re: Flatout's Mk4 astra LET

picked up 2 mint doors today and a decent rear bumper aswell because im getting rid of the flushed tailgate and smooth rear bumper and replacing the doors because i want 1 pair fitted with polycarb, and another pair incase i get pissed off with the sliders and want to revert back to leccy windows.

    door card off

    one quick incision later............

what a pig they are to do, most of the inner door is double skinned and theres loads of spotwelds holding it all together but 2 hours and 3 cutting discs later they was done, ive still got to tidy all the edges up and sort out my little **** up at the top of the door and i'm gonna do the other one tomorrow, then once plastics4performance pull there fingers out i'll have some windows for them then they can be painted and fitted

    Re: Flatout's Mk4 astra LET

Postie man brought me a present

full polycarb window set from plastics4performance apparently the first set they've made

i went for the 3mm clear with oe black outer edge

rear 1/4 window that i'm gonna try and get the original window trim to fit round otherwise i'll have to bond and bolt it in place.

    door windows with sliders fitted........

i'm gonna go outside if it stops raining and hollow the drivers door out.

just waiting for the new 308mm brakes to arrive now

    Re: Flatout's Mk4 astra LET

Hopefully sorted an atb diff out today thanks to spanish

so i spent an hour or so hollowing out the other door and stripping what i dont need off of it

then i thought i'd see how well the windows fitted

they fit nice and snug and once all the rubbers are squeez'd on they fit up really tightly i just need to sort a way of holding them up just incase they slip

now, the original rear windows fit through holes and a nut holds them on by this stud

i wanted to strip the plastic outer piece away from the glass and fit the polycarb back into the trim, but after faffing about with it it looks like it'll be an impossible task without completely destroying the trim so instead im going to use the stud's seperately and glue them individually to the polycarb and then use some kind of seal on the inside to stop any leaks

oh yeah i'm gonna have to find something to put over the cut edge on the doors as this can happen very easily and i dont fancy losing a finger everytime i use the car lol

I used rubber edging to 'shield' the bare metal on my doors, and my front polycarbs are held in with a bead of sealer than I ran all the way around inbetween the rubbers at the top/edge of the door
