Rubix's Vectra GSRi . . . . .

Copy/Paste from VVOC :::

Hi all,

Still pretty new around here so thought it was about time I started my own project thread! Owned a few Vectra's in the past ( Sri V6, Sri 2.0, ST Turbo conversion that never got finished) and various other vauxhalls (Mk3 Astra turbo, Cavvy Gsi's ect ect...).

I needed another runabout and the Vectra was the weapon of choice - big 4 door saloon that can be fixed for peanuts if / when it all goes pete tong - Originally this was just to potter up to work and back while my JapCrap cars decided to break. So after a bit of hunting and the grand sum of £400 I was the not so proud owner of this :

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...72008005-1.jpg

Vectra SRi 2.5 v6 - 120K - diamond black - Few bits n bobs done (Not really my style) however it was just a runabout car and nothing else so why bother changing anything . . . .

Then I decided it was time to breathe some life into the ol dog and give her some TLC but for a change keeping it simple, cheap & effective

A set of 17" Team dynamix pro race wheels came up on Mig local to me for £150 - Bargain ! Decided this was just what the car needed and the deal was done.

Then a late night eBay session sourced me this :

Duplex exhaust - Looks awful on a pre-face bumper but actually rather nice with the facelift styling - So there was only one option !

Another random ebay moment saw me buy :

£10 - Cant complain at that !

£60 I hate fibreglass - however not as much as the standard pre-face bumper so this will have to do !

£30 ! Just cant get ahold of the seller atm - Managed to collect everything else

So I started the trek up to Dunfermline to pick up my rear bumper and GSi front and thought it would be rude not to pop by and see Lugy for a route about his old vectra.

A few ££ exchanged later and I'm now adding a set of facelift lights to the collection with 8000K HID's, a pair of illuminated sun visors and some random stuff !

Then arrived to meet the fella with the rear bumper to find he was breaking a full facelift vectra and was willing to do a deal to shift some stuff ! I managed to add a set of facelift sideskirts, facelift rear bootlid & lights, complete set of door / wing mouldings & some centre caps for my old facelift alloy wheels to the never ending list of things to fit.

Its gone from being a basic daily run around to a mini project. Everything will be getting done cheaply as I've got my proper project car in a container coming across from Japan atm - this one was meant to save me money

So after spending a few weeks of collecting, painting & general organising its finally ready to be thrown together ! Currently what has been done already is :

Timing & Full Service
3.0 Cams
Enlarged TB Fitted
Alloy wheels Fitted
Exhaust Fitted (Looks gash with the Std bumpers)
Bumpers, Mouldings, Sideskirts ect.. all painted
Smoked Side Repeaters
All major parts sourced (Still awaiting delivery on a few - Coilovers are a prime example !)

Still to be fitted / To Do:

Facelift Gsi Front Bumper
Facelift Sideskirts
Facelift Rear Bumper
Smoke Headlights & fit along with HID's
Front Hub

Awaiting delivery :

Coilovers
Half Leather
Smoked rear lights (Pictured above)

and Ive just about to drop in a huge amount of stuff to be powdercoated

So here is how she looks atm (in the middle of getting the mouldings fitted !) :

So much work still to be done but I think it will be worth it ! Even the basic things like ditch the Tints & rear lights + a fresh set of numberplates !

Rain has halted play for today but managed to get some stuff done - But ill be fitting as much as I can before Crail on Sunday so ill be keeping this thread updated with all my WIP photo's - Really should have taken more up until now but hey - ho !

Hopefully Ill have it completed for early next year then I can just drive around and enjoy (Unless I buy a LET this week . . . but thats another story !)

Cheers

Rubix

Glad to see you want to bin the tints, one of the most hateful mods ever IMO.

I had to double take at this picture, I thought it had some odd lights at the back of the roof, I then realised it is your neighbours wall!

Lightbar FTW

Tints are ghey - just like the exhaust Im thinking now!

However with the tailpipes changed to something some subtle and the facelift rear bumper makes a massive difference

I just love the face that it looks so much more modern now - amazing what a set of bumpers and some HID's can do !

Re: Rubix's Vectra GSRi . . . . .

I was posting as you were submitting the last pictures! A massive imporovement, don't get me wrong, I am not a big Vectra fan and I hate dark wheels but they look far better than the pony ashtray ash grey that they were before. (I assume they have changed colour or it is just the close up of the O/S front wheel I am refering to?)

The bumper has made a huge difference!

just a close up - Wheels are actually anthracite but photograph terribly !

Front & rear bumpers make the difference - Throw on some sideskirts and it no longer looks like it should be parked at a McDonalds carpark at 3am . . . . Just
