Time to fit the VX220 dials

Decided I'd finally get round to fitting my new dials and get rid of the old dash.

Picked these up a few months back on fleabay, from a VX220.

Didnt want to mess around fabricating a to complicated mount,

so used the orginals with a simple plate welded to my column mount

Drilled some holes.

Stage 1 complete:

The standard shroud fitted nicely with only minimal trimming to the rear

Now for the fun loom, which after finding a link to a dutch site that gave full a wiring diagrams (in english) was straight forward enough.

ooo imlumination

Just the speedo to wire up now, i have a digi dash sender and im gonna get a pulse converter from DOM on Mig which should make calibrating it nice n easy.
Also need to make up a switch panel that will also hold fuse box.

Weighed the old dash and dials - its about 6KGs (without heaters or pipes and a few of the plastic trims), and the new dials weighs under 500g so saved 5.5 kgs... not bad.

Video of them running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVxYAAsmsfU

Re: Time to fit the VX220 dials

ewwww dirty "fake" stack from a VXT lol

I remember when we fitted one into Chris T's nova years ago. It was a complete pig as the CTS and Fuel levels were jsut completely fcuking annoying. In that you had to put resistors inline to convert the nova fuel level reading into something the VX dash could cope with (bear in mind that when you fill the tank, the fuel gauge takes ages to increment for some stupid reason).
Might be worth a look at the VX220 wiring diagram on the TIS (http://www.speedsterclub.nl/biblioth...tis/index.html)

note the alarm LED is also a shift light

That the link i used.. so there you go Pete!

Yeah ive already noticed the fuel gauge seems strange. . I tested it prior to fitting and it works on 0 resistance being empty and full ristance (ie no signal to be full). Havent had the engine up to temperature yet to test the coolant temp, but again will probly need some work.

Shame the shift light is no more than a prewired LED, so I still need a source signal to trigger it!

I think the shift light is pre set to come on without the need for extra wiring... but you cant change the rpm it comes on at lol.

Re: Time to fit the VX220 dials

oh and for the record. S125 (odo reset etc) is pressed and held to cycle through brightness, and you press it about 3 times to reset the trip counter.

it would be wise to sort the coolant level switch out too otherwise thats gonna piss you off all the time lol

Re: Time to fit the VX220 dials

Sorry not the the battery, i got confused, it was the brakes, there isnt a fluid level light, even tho the wiring is shown on the diagram, i think it must trigger the same light as the handbrake warning light. So I wired the nova fluid level to the ABS light.

Nice touch. What was your main reason for putting them in?

Re: Time to fit the VX220 dials

I'd try to argue just for weight, as the dash weighs a fair amount. But deep down i know its because they look cool. lol
