Re: my nova

my mate brought this car before benn for £1100, he dont no anything about cars but had it anyway, tbh the car is very rough and somebody has spent alot of time and money on it but not bothered to finish it off, i was going to have it in my workshop over the winter and we were going to tidy it right up, but when i had it in and had a good look over it there was so much that needed doing he said **** it and swapped it with benn for a mk4 golf turbo. there are lots of nice goodies on it but as a package its not really very good if im honest. i loved the gear linkage......couldnt work out wot it was off but it went off diagonally into the passenger footwell and for 1/4 mile/track use you'd get some serious gear quick changes. the carbs were ****e, i started looking into wot had gone on.........without spending to much time it seems the R1 pump is missing and causing a problem and also im wondering if the jets have been enlarged correctly, anyway that was where we were gunna start but then like i say he got offered the swap and it appealed to him more than having the nova of the road all winter

Re: my nova

i didnt look for it benn, it was where we were going to start to get it running right, but when you turned the fuel pump switch on it pissed out fuel from the carbs whereas the R1 pump so ive read cuts out when it reaches the correct pressure......the pump was running continously and was pissing neat fuel into the trumpets which not only wasnt right but was dangerous too! like i say didnt look for it, but thats where i was going to start......check the pump to see if it was an R1 pump and put new fuel lines in as they are rediculous and remove the carbs, clean, inspect and check the jets were drilled to the correct size which i think is 1.8mm (dont quote me but i did start looking into it) then also the advance/retard wasnt even connected and the throttle cable was bodged which i put an XE one on for temp use as it was sticking flat out which worked ok to keep him going.........in all honesty the car was crap if im honest, seats werent secure, steering wheels was flimsy, the dash dont work, none of the electrics worked........the engine was just the beggining of a long list of jobs/work to do. i think lee was glad to see it go as he rang me up and said oh the cars gone, now i have to fix your old golf as theres stuff wrong with that so he says lol
