| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now I'm gonna go for 2 of the thinner ones for the back to direct air down to my TBs, and then one more over the passenger side corner for when I run my filter/airbox setup
Got a part number for em?

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now spent some time on the car tonight, redid the compression test and got similar figures to before when cold, while i was running it to get it hot i decided to give the dizzy a tweak to try an get it running better (the timing was set with just the manifold on) it now pics up much better with only a little cough but whilst i was doing this i noticed the oil pressure drops off when hot so need a new pump, more money.... plus the lil thing decided to dump abit of coolant, cant quite tell where from but it looks like the coolant pump, thing is its new so i need to strip the timing cover for a look....bugger
as i didnt have long left time wise i decided a bit of tcut wouldnt hurt, now with no finger prints and a coat of wax it looks alot better, dont worry benn its nothing on yours. |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now finally another update, ive been way too busy with work lately.
first i swapped the wheels, my cav fanblades are looking tatty and go flat so i stuck my newly aquired astra sport rims on, £30 off ebay coz the seller missed the H in vauxhall. they arent perfect but look loads better. its still on stands so will sit lower normally.
.
then i decided to investigate the coolant leak, turns out i put too long bolts in the inlet manifold lower edge so it wasnt clamped tight but at least while the carbs are off i can change my old carb/manifold seals as its poping back when running. and i tried to fit the pipercross sausage filter i got off ebay, its been cut to fit a ford, but as the pics show i have NO chance, i know you will say cut the bulkhead out but then ive got to relocate everything. ill just buy twin trumpet socks |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now ive got my fuel filter in front of the brake m/c soill need to move the fuel filter, coolant bottle but limited by the battery, and due to the (flat not sloped) angle of my carbs it looks like they will catch on the main part of the bulkhead that cant be cut. so it will be easier to fit and clean the filters if i use foam ones.
the filter is 50mm deep, check the clearence around the fuel filter. |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now oddly i think it was the speed that saved me, i was barrel rolling that fast it didnt land on each side so i didnt get thrown about too much, the drivers window glass only smashed when i came to a rest on the roof, and one pass side window was intact too.
ive learnt from that though, i corner like a wuss at night now. plus this corsa wont be on the road much, ill just trailer it to the track, its safer. |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now cheers vxlgsi, if id fitted them from underneath they would look **** the holes are all wonky, lol. im not a fan of bodywork or painting its too much hassle hence the brush strokes in the old and sticky matt black bonnet.
i took the mk3 astra engine donor for a spin before i pulled the engine out and it span on the throttle in 2nd on 16's when it was totally standard. i loved the responce of my nova 8v so its logical that a carbed 1.6 would be even better.
ive seen a 1.6 8v on 250k miles in a vectra taxi so they cant be too bad. |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now cheers gerard, the oil pressure should be 1.5 bar at idle according to the haynes manual, ive got half that!!1 the seals leaking too, id feel happier with a high flow pump, so the hydrolic lifts are well feed when its screaming on the track.
adam-d, i havent got a clue what jets ive got, i bought the carbs and manifold off ebay, seller said they were jetted for a 1.6 8v nova. a mate who's raced mk2 escort rally cars for years said it sounds close to perfect as is, im just gonna get it finished then take it to a rolling road to check the emissions/hydro carbons then go from there.
the engine spec is kent nvo51 cam, vernier pulley, stiffer valve springs, gp n style flowed & skimmed head, lightened and balanced crank/fly/clutch, 4 branch exhaust, arp rod bolts & twin 40's |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now i think the cage is, and went for a old 8v for cost reasons, "cheap to tune" and its simpleness |

A friend of mine had a tuned 1.6 8v many years ago in a nova running on injection and it went like a wanker used to sit beside astra gsi's and cali 16v no problem right upto 130+ to this day i still have no idea what he had done to it. |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now i had fun racing a saxo upto 130mph, in the old nova 1.4 sri.
adam-d you say tuning a small block is cheaper? ill question that. i had most of my parts left over from the nova, if i hadnt id have bought a complete redtop with fitting kit, would work out about the same as my carbs and cam, without all the other stuff. but not many people want the small block 8v stuff so 2nd hand its fairly cheap. and different, the 1.6 bolts to my original 1.2 8v mounts nice and easy.
vxlgsi- my nova pulled realy well and had decent responce, i much prefer the rawer older engines, ive driven several newer cars and they are soo flat its just not funny |

| Re: yet another corsa b track car build, 1.6 8v, nearly finished now abit of a delay, been busy with work and stripping my drift car, 3.0 senator more toys but no more time, ill grow up one day.
so now ive sorted the inlet manifold i can fit my alternator, i was gonna use a multi v belt but due to my lowering bracket that wont fit so ive gone for an old style v belt set up which has ment a different bottom pulley. just need to cut and weld the adjuster bracket, partly due to the dropper bracket and partly due to where my volvo heater pipe runs between the block and alternator. in the pic you can see the two mounts side by side, total opposites.
just need to get a new oil pump, change a ball joint and do the tracking, then its ready for the rollers....fingers crossed. |
