Re: mk3 astra gsi restoration

Can't believe how cheap u picked this up m8. The engine alone is worth at least £250 and i've seen ones ALOT worse go for about £500! Glad your restoring it tho m8. I bought mine a year ago and they are brilliant cars! I had the water in my footwells aswell. Sourced it to my scuttle panel. It had warped over time due to heat and water was getting down behind it. That and my windscreen seal wasn't fitted properly! Best of luck tho m8, you'll enjoy it once its done!

Re: mk3 astra gsi restoration

You're so crazy in England !
Can't understand why you spend as much time as on this rust car.......

Just buy an OPEL Astra Gsi from South of Europe and you won't find rust problem............

Re: mk3 astra gsi restoration

i restored mine a few years ago gets a bit soul destroying all that rot but they are quality cars its so worth it in the end ,take out ur front shocks and check underneath ur top suspension turrets mine was pretty rotten in there and where the steering arms poke through the front chassis legs check the surrounding area dig a screwdriver into the sealer it was hiding some nasty rot

Re: mk3 astra gsi restoration

yes but to be honest panels arent megabucks plus if your not paying for welding etc. then costs are quite low. and wheres the fun in buying a smooth astra from south europe anyway when you could be restoring a car basically given to you? yes a lot of work is going into it, but will be worth it in the end. you cant beat that feeling of looking at what you started with, then making it into something to be proud of. its what being an enthusiast is all about. thats my opinion anyway

Much agreed and its nice that your restoring it, like mickygsi said they are quality cars and far too many are hacked up for their engines and weighed in! I've never owned a car where so many strangers come up and compliment me about it. Top quality welding there fella!

Re: mk3 astra gsi restoration

my mate doing the welding for me. but yes basically the car cost me 100 quid. all panels cost me 150 quid, all in all at the mo ive spent bout 350 quid so its gonna be well worth it in the end, and its all part of the fun restoring it. mite be down there tonight phil or tommorow morning. jus been and picked up filler and seam sealer so there is plenty to be getting on with
