adam c's smallblock nova wip

ive just copied my wip thread over from png so if it doesnt make sense you know why

right then its about time i started a wip.i bought the car from stevie78 off here back in august heres how it looks(pic from the original for sale ad)the only thing i have changed is the exhaust for a magnex one as the old one used to set off car alarms!

also went and did a trackday at elvington and absolutly loved it especially the responce from people with more expensive dedicated machinery when they had to move over

so the plan was hatched i wanted a standardish looking nova but for it to have some tasty goodies i.e engine suspension etc(to show more people up )but it will also still be staying as my daily driver

so the bug hit me!first of all i bought these strengthend and polybushed's tie bars and bottom arms off t45_ste from here and put some new bottom ball joints on

i also bought a byldenstein b+ head off him but that has now been sold

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

then with winter arriving and the dark nights coming in i found out what nova headlights are really like! absolute garbage.so i did a bit of research and bought these:

also bought a pair of brand new headlights as my old ones wouldnt adjust

then i decided about what engine spec i was going to have.
originally i was going to keep the original inlet and go dta management but then this engine came along and with the history it has i just had to have it!

then got these as a christmas present from my mum

and then this package arrived the other day:

yep my quick rack internals(just awaiting a steering rack so i can swap the internals and get it fitted)

i also bought this the other day for my new engine

i will try get some more upto date pics of the car and try get some more pics while im fitting the parts(once i start the job i just want to get it finished and always forget to take pics!)

p.s at the min i know its just pics of parts but its slowly coming together

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

little pointless update:i have received my secondhand rack that i bought so today i took the old internals out and put my quick rack internals in.
i also bought some new track rods, trackrod ends and sterring gaiters to go on it as well.

i think im going to paint it first before i put it on but dont know wether to paint it silver, black or white?opinions please

im also thinking about solid rack mounts?anybody using these?

todays progress:took the old engine out, binned most of the wiring i dont need and put the new engine in mounted it up aswell as exhaust manifold, facet pump and regulator.only got the wiring to do now which we will be doing tommorow.whoop!!carnt wait to hear the sound of the carbs!

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

bit of an update:

while bored at work having some cherry coke i began looking round for something to do and i had a little brain wave!.i thought whilst i have nothing to do i'll make a oil catch tank.....pikey motorsport style

so take:

1 length of garden water hose
1 small length of old washer fluid hose
2 tie straps
and the all important cherry coke bottle

also the postman brought me a package this morning

needless to say i was jumping around like a maniac!proper excited

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

the other day i got my frost flocking kit through and spare dash binnacle, heater /clock front and light switch so today i set about flocking them

first of all i cleaned all of the parts with a damp cloth to get rid of any grease/solvents etc and dried the all with a towel.

then once they had been dried i used the glue that comes with the kit and smothered the plastics with it.

then using the applicator that comes with the kit i started applying the flock

and my freshly flocked bits

im very happy with the outcome of the bits tbh.i've got to wait 24 hours for the glue to finish to dry and to sweep off the excess flock and then i can fit them.i shall post some pics up tommorow when they are fitted.

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

also last sunday i went to york raceway and decided to have a few goes up the strip:

the first run(bearing in mind it was my first go at the quarter mile and first time i have really launched the car)i got a 15.6 but then on my second and third runs everytime i went to set off from the line it was jumping out of gear so i decided to call it a day and head home before i broke something(think i should just keep to trackdays )

im pretty confident i can get into the high 14's though with a little bit of practise

i've also got the quaiffe diff to go in aswell which should help

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

well after having no heater for a few months i decided to get my ass in gear and get it sorted especially with winter coming up(and i was sick of putting a big wolly jumper on everytime i went out in it ).it was the heater matrix that was bust as when i had old engine in the headgasket had gone and must of blown it so i bypassed the heater matrix and left it like that

fast forward a few month and i got a new heater matrix and set about fitting it!

first of all i took out both of the dash undertrays

then i could access the hater matrix bit.i undid the 4 7mm headed bolts

i pulled the plastic cover down and then out exposing the heater matrix

and with a little leverage pulled it out

and put the new one in

and put it all back together and put the pipes back in and hey presto its nice and warm(well for a nova )

Re: adam c's smallblock nova wip

Mmmmmmm, T40'd 1600 8v Nova goodness.

Glad to see it's getting used properly. Flocking looks spot on too. How easy was it to do? How big an area can you flock?
