Flame pink corsa track car....

Well I bought this corsa last august with the intention of having it ready for track by spring, but with me liking a drink most weekends and starting a new job I've not devoted much time to it. However, I plan to blitz it over the winter and be ready for next spring.

Anyways, I started with a red'ish corsa and fitted an XE and bought some comp mo's off a guy on here -

Started stipping the interior as I planned on it only having 2 seats and getting it on knockhill asap.

The brakes were gubbed so I decided I was going to order some tarox f2000 discs and corsa+ pads. Also bought an FRP Bonnet as mines a little rotten at the front.

Now I needed some suspension as I didnt fancy going on track with standard 9 year old shocks and springs, after looking about I ended up with SPAX coilovers as they were available ASAP and I was desperate to get on track. I was later to regret this as looking back I could have waited the 4 weeks on the GAZ coilovers as the project wasnt going to be as simple as I planned.

Then got my ahsley competition manifold and exhaust on, and its loud! Only drove it for about 500 meters really since it was fitted though, so was unsure if it had made much difference. But I reckon it rev'd alot free'er.

I was now ready to rawk as I had fitted my suspension and was just needing new front brakes... this is where things started to go pear shaped. I decided that instead of ordering discs and pads as planned I would go a bit further and ordered up some Tarox stuff, and these turned up -

Tarox 6 pots with 288mm tarox f2000 discs and some Ferodo DS2500 pads.

Then instead of just using the standard seats to begin with I ended up ordering these -

Corbeau Pro Series for drivers side & Corbeau Sprint for the passenger. Also got some FIA TRS Harnesses to go with them.

I then began taking the inside appart and removing that awful sound deadening -

While in the process of doing this I ordered myself a Sparco roll cage which lead to me taking the dash out -

Which in turn lead to me buying -

Stack Rev Counter
Stack Oil Pressure Gauge
Stack Oil Temp Gauge
Stack Water Temp Gauge
Stack Fuel Gauge
SPA speedo

The project had now went much further than I had ever planned with my initial budget being to get a corsa on track for a grand...
So I thought seen as I have went this far I might aswell take the car to bits a respray it while I have the chance so this happened -

Its sitting like this at present and I just need to pull the finger out and get the shell prepped for painting by getting rid of any rust and then give it to my mate to fit the cage and paint it.

I think I am also going to whip the engine back out and get the engine bay done while I am at it.

So anyways thats all I have done for now, but I am hoping keeping a project thread might give me the motivation to do stuff. We will see though I will probably end up on the beer again this weekend

Re: Flame pink corsa track car....

Fecking nice shopping list. Brakes seem slight overkill for a lightweight xe corsa? lol

Re: Flame pink corsa track car....

Still got alot more bits I wanna buy, fancy doing the same setup as you and olly on the back so need to source some of those wee cups. Would have been cheaper saving all my money and buying a locost or something, but I'd have just pissed it up the wall and have nothing.

I know they are maybe overkill but its the same ones they supply for all small hatches so should be fine, but if you see a red corsa flip onto its roof on track front ways... there is a good chance its me!

Also managed to break my engine as I forgot to put anti freeze in so the belt jumped off the water pump and bent the valves! DOH! However after searching for something pre built with throttle bodies i decided on just buying a head from a guy on corsasport, so will get that fitted in the next few weeks then get it finished for painting.

I am on the look out for tb's but every time I try buy some on the forsale section here I have been messed about which is annoying so might just need to buy them new once I find the place with the best deal.

Re: Flame pink corsa track car....

No progress on the car yet as I have been fixing my leaky garage over the past couple weeks to get the car in for the winter. Anyways, been tinkering trying to get the tarox calipers mounted on the hub and got thinking that perhaps upgrading to a pedal box from someone like compbrake.co.uk would be a wise idea? Wasnt sure the current master cylinder would be up to the job? Not totally clued up on these as its something I've never done or had on my cars, anyone got any advice on what I am best to do? Setup will be -

Front - Tarox 6 Pots and Rear - Standard Drums.

Re: Flame pink corsa track car....

Where did you get your pedal box from mate?

I got them from www.motorsportworld.co.uk (Kevlar/GRP ones) and waited about 4-5 weeks as Corbeau make all motorsport seats to order. I would say the "pro series" is quite roomy, however the "sprint" I have for a passenger seat is a squeeze for most people including skinny folk. Fear not though, they do an XL (fat version) of the pro series which is bigger and you should have no problems fitting in it.

I have the brakes now so they will be staying Overkill, perhaps.. but they look awsome, plus doing endos in a corsa will be a giggle!
