| Re: J's Nova Project Hey Guys sorry for the Quiet Spell have been away with work far too much!!!
So See Below Some pics of my progress ill do my best to explain as i go
After a struggle, the bottom end is back in good old stryt brace to wrap rope around
Re wired the Alternator & starter with dedicated +V to the Battery in the correct colour
I get my head back woohooo
Wasted no time getting it installed
Trial fir the throttle bodies so i can run the fuel lines
Fuel Lines in, I run Teflon Braided from Pump to FPR, then High presure rubber return
Snapped the cam tensioner thingy, so i tapped a thred for a exhaust stud, loctited it in and away we go.
Mounted Coil pack to head this hold the old dizzy blanking plate in place
Installed ECU Harness, test fited ITG Filter Looking good imo
Thats all for now lads ill sort the rest of this pics out soon...
Hope you like |

| Re: J's Nova Project I did have the car running, the throttle bodies were not as hard as i expected to install & setup, they took a while but WOW they sound good. I found running the hose pipe over the rad lept things in check.
Anyway i used Running in oil to start was aiming at 150 to 250 gentle miles, this passed by fast i then did the oil Filter and replaced with Gen Vaux Semi Syn.
Booted down the motorway chasing a SL55, bare in mind im nervous as it's a fresh engine, checking the Fuel presure, oil pres & temp checking water temp all ok, dumped into 5th hit 100+++mph and lost all oil preasure Hit the kill switch dumped the clutch and coasted to the hard shoulder thinking ohh ****!
I Got out and a quick inspection reveals no oil leaks or fluid of any sort.. ok confused!! i then start it back up, i have 1 bar of presure the cams sound like a bag of nails and i think fook shut it off and call the RAC.
I get home drop the sump and OMG how stupid do i feel, the only reason im posting this is so others dont make the same silly mistake i did.
I work away alot so when i strip things i lable and take pics, well i did lable all 4 conrods & pistons 1 to 4 with a small bit of insulation tape, which obviously i forgot to take off as it was blocking my pickup and you could still read the numbers which did make me smile
So next up is the sump, it's full of brass goldy ****!! so i drop the mains bearing's out nope all fine, dropped out the big ends and No3 has mushroomed and spun. 1,2,4 are ok thank god!
I have just finished polishing the crank, i will install new ACL bearings when i get back from work in the week, and let you all know how it goes again!!! i do hope i have not hidden any other silly surprises in my engine! |

| Re: J's Nova Project So, as i had nothing to do i decided the nasty cam cover & lead cover needed a good clean up,
I stripped both covers with Nitro Moores, then attacked it with wet n dry, i used my drill with a wire brush attachment to get in the nooks and crannys.
while i was there i did the cam cover breather modification.
Here is the Old paint
Cam Cover painted
Painted the spark plug cover to start
Polished the letters & numbers out, gave it a coat of laquer
Fitted a new Roose Motorsport breather while i was at it
Did the cam breather modification
Dont know why i didnt do this sooner.
Now its just my engine bay that looks ****! |

Mines not done and it was fine, and mines done 140K | your car is waaaay 2 shiney to be on track :P
anyway, when you shoot round corners you get smoke and oil surge, this mod cuts that out, any oil in the main breather gets dumped straight on the cams so again no starvation from heavy cornering.
Also it has been known that oil in the main breather pressurises the bottom end and boom... again, so i thought better to have it than not. |

| Re: J's Nova Project Well the quick fix on the crank did not work lasted 300 miles lol
So i removed the engine and worked out it was cheaper to get a newer bottom end than re grinding ect, picked up a mint engine so now i have a whole spare XE for parts.
The plan is to use my newly refurbed coscast head with the newer bottom end, the crank, rods & pistons are in better condition than my old ones so i will reuse the whole bottom end including block.
I decided on the block as i couldnt be bothered to clean all the oil gallerys out on my old one to make sure no bits of bearing was left over!
Dirty Pistons
The plan "Dont tell the misses i dont think she will miss the vase hahaha"
The outcome
Gunked the engine then painted
Re honed the bores
Found this!! http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/other...is-cracks.html
thats as much as ive had time for this weekend... any help on the cracks would be great

Closer inspection revealed the X member was rottern as fook under all the underseal, i have ordered a complete new front end, spent the rest of today cutting the front out! what that has been, i know its 15 years old but damn theres some rust on the front end lol!!
Not no more! Will get picks up later |
