some of the connectors were mint nearly all the hoses were factory and really showing their age so that lots gonna need replacing

Re: my "other" project

i know what you mean they really are great cars it was the handling that hooked me on them, i knew they were good round the twisties but didnt realise how good untill some old guy cut me up on an island and i had to plant it to get out of the way, i must have been doing about 50 and it never let go.

Re: my "other" project

Just one word of warning i used to rally a 309 tarmac car after having the 205 road car and they both caught me out lifting mid bend is a no no it will swap ends in no time

Nearly had the biggest accident of my life doing around 70 lifted spun 360 over the other side of the road missed two cars coming the other way, one of them mounted the curb and hit a wire mesh fence i duly floored it and ****ed off (mind you that was about ten years ago so hope there not still looking for me)

thanks for the heads up, ive kindof learnt to "accept" understeer and if it starts to go pair understeer is a hell of a lot better than oversteer, i dont mind spinning on a track but on the road ive learnt to just keep feeding it and not lifting, id rather donk a kerb than spin and probably smash into something else.

Would love one of those as a third car, preferably in Miami Blue/Laser Green.

Re: my "other" project

my 205 had the 1.9 conversion running fast road cams, chiped ecu and rally clutch and i could not put the footdown round corners all it would do was spin the wheels, alot of people under estimate these cars.

Re: my "other" project

some more work done over the weekend refurbing some bits.

started ripping more bits out

laid everything out so i knew what i needed most is pretty ok

got a helper working on some bits

while i started on some other stuff

check out the corrosion blocking that pipe, absolutely nothing was going through it, not god

tried to take out the bleed nipple which sheared so drilled it and tapped the threads clean

some of the after pics, getting good at this refurbing malarky

check out the paintwork

Re: my "other" project

freshen up the bay and some engine work,
belts pumps gaskets clips hoses, also getting a longer duration cam with a side of extra lift so the pistons are coming out for pockets.

Re: my "other" project

I converted my 1.6 Gti to a Mi16 a few years back, stripped and caged it
It was awesome, never met much that could look at it
I have a pic soewhere of the speedo right round and stopped by the trip meter button (private road obviously)
The conversion really is a piece of cake also, it drops straign in on the mounts, a wee mod to the exhaust manifold and the rad, swap the looms and away you go.

The lift off oversteer is caused by the rubber rear axle mounting bushes, I swapped these for some ally ones and ploblem solved, it could be provoked but was much more predictable.

It was however very troublesome and you were never out of the guts of it, hence I sold it to some bloke form London.

www.205gtidrivers.com is a great source of info

the Mi was an option but i cant be bothered with it all tbh, this engine is known good and got a full service history, ill be lucky if i find an engine with that.
however im not totally dismissing it as a future option

in terms of conversions its one of the easiest available, cutting and shutting the manifold is the only real hard bit unless you use the rear mount to tilt it then its piece of piss.

have been out in a group A mounted car and was a bit too thumpy for my liking, especially for a fast road car, im on the drivers site already, its a real wealth of knowledge over there, never come accross a site like it.

4mm polycarb windows

Re: my "other" project

love the 205's. Had a black 1.6 as my second car when I was 18 and fooking loved it. I WILL have another at some point but i'm told that a wedding is more important

I believe the 1.6 box has closer ratios than the 1.9 box. Is that a mod / change you have considered?
