Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

Engine is from my pink courtenay turbo nova, but now running on stand alone management!

Im better now and ready to make this look presentable for what shows there are left.

Heres how it looks now..

The messy boost pipe is due to my DIY coilbraket not leaving much room between it and the pedal box! Need a new place to mount my coil and a new pipe! Whats the best place and way to do it (Ford Coil)?

Shall i leave Longlife make me a bit of pipe or buy a TX Autosport type item?

Obvious one is cam covor colours, opinions please? (Im at Black, O.E Style Silver, or Red?)

Distributor Blank, which one shall i get and from where?

Get rid of the plug cover, makes the bay look extremely messy. I'll buy it.

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

Looks pretty mint to me, only needs a quick clean and it would be immaculate.

I would.

1) Peek polish, all the shiny bits. Only do the large open surfaces or the polish gets trapped in crevices and its a bas tard to get out, plus you won't notice it anyway.
2) Hammerite the matte silver thing in bottom right (my picture) and anything else looking grubby (gubbins under master cylinder reservoirs etc?)
3) Dashboard wipes all the other stuff including plastics and hoses (Shell garages sell these dashboard wipes in yellow packaging, they leave a satin finish and are great for engine bays).
4) Spray the engine cover a proper colour, matte/satin black would be nice.

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

Rocker cover in OE look metallic Silver. Replace plug cover with a minty Red OE look one.

Strut brace, header tank & wiper motor & plate etc all done in satin black powder coat.

Polish/wax up the inner wings etc. Clean hoses as replied earlier. Its just a matter of simplifying all the colours & making sure whatever is there is clean.

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

What going on on the scuttle?
Sort out and hide the water pipe from guessing the turbo wit that nasty joiner bit in, run it under the slam pannel,
Repaint the wiper motor and backing plate, maybe get a scuttle cover that fits abit better,
Clean/paint any other bits, inner wings clean and wax them up and so on..

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

I did it on mine. still got bits to do though. had to pull it all out again to try and cure a misfire before Billing I've polished up as much as possible just need a few bits like boost pipes, a bracket for the AFM, new battery bag and bigger heat shield for the turbo. alls left to do is try and find a company that'll build me an alloy header tank

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

looks so much better with just the dizzy blanked etc. depending how polished you wnat the stainless, i got a good finish on a cover i made a few days back just by using a very fine grade wire wool and some brasso, not a mirror finish but one that i was more than happy with for the cost

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

had it all tidy and ready for USC show and shine on Sunday

On my way up saturday, engine died while motorway cruising.

Pulled up, checked fuel and spark. AA came out, 50 PSi compression across the board : (

Pulled the top timing cover bolt off and pulled it back, cranked it over, can get one cam to line up to the marking and one is about a tooth out. Havnt had a chance to strip down yet, but im guessing the belt has jumped a tooth. Hope its not terminal.Once its all apart and i can survey the damage i will then decide what bits to spend my money on.

Re: Advice on engine bay "tidy up"..

I'd personnally get the boost pipe equal size all the way through if it was me, bend looks like a cheap knock up to me and probably restricts air flow. What management are you running?

Dave.
