    Hello Rob,

I hope your car is in progress, here some news with mine liked to share,

After a brief discussion with Lee I have decided to buy omega pistons for my C16XE but neither SBD nor Omega pistons didn't respond to my enquiries. So now I have my Wossners ready to fit. Actually I have question marks on my mind when I ordered them but now I think Wossners have some benefits on omegas like smaller skirt friction areas also coated with molybdenum. Also gudgeon pins coated with moly. The workmanship also seems neat. Further impressions will come after the first run of my engine.
Here is a picture of my piston/rod combination.

Looking good mate - bet you cant wait for the extra power!

Just ordered a heated front screen for mine and the polycarb windows should be arriving soon.
Once its all fitted - it might start looking like more of a car!!
Just waiting on my bells and brackets for my brakes and then i can fit my brakes up.

    So i wait.................

    All the best

hey azzmi, glad your happy with your pistons, and i'm sure they will be great, but i must say the omegas i was on about from SBD have the smaller skirt area and coating aswell, juts a shame SBD didnt seem to be on the ball when it came to sorting out your order...

    Hello Lee,

Thank you, Actually, all I can do is to be happy since all that I have is wossners at the moment. I am thinking about try to contact already now with SBD for my next engine rebuild. You were right about the wossners have less deep valve pockets and more heavy about 10 grams. Since all my references are ex ex omega pistons and SBD WEB site, I don't know what is the latest form of the omega pistons. I have taken few pictures both wossner and omega together to compare,

    Lee,
I have seen this pistons at web before but I think they are only available for 2.0L XE engine (88 or 87mm bore) mine is 1.6. They say the pistons that is shown in 1.6 display engine but since no further information on their site, I thought that it was a typo. Next time I will come there to buy them in person. Since I don't like to fly I have to drive all the way to England. last year I have driven to Nogaro circuit, France. It seems not to far to go and visit the famous Lee's Garage

    Hello mates,

I like to know what is the best compression ratio for C16 engine in your opinions? Please consider that, best fuel I can use is 100 octane.

    Re: Corsa Maxi rally car

    Hi Azzmi,

I will use 12,4-12,7 compression ratio in mine. That is what we have used in other 16V 1600 cc engines before. Over 12,7 I would not go with standard fuel. We have 1600 cc engines built with 13:1 ratio, but those are used with race fuels only. I do not know yet about this engine (X16XE), but in some occasions we have found out that less comp ratio has given better overall perfomance with 2 liter opel engine. It depends on the camshafts as well, which kind of you have ?

    Re: Corsa Maxi rally car

    Hello mate,

Since the gravel forrest rallies are my favourite, my cams are not so long duration with the intention of to keep a satisfactorly mid range torque and power. So, intake is a BJ23, 11.63mm lift and 284 degrees duration and for the exhaust, BJ24, 11.68mm lift and 280 degrees duration.

I am not so sure but I heard that X16XE and C16XE engines are not the exactly same. There are minor differencies between them to keep enviromental regulations, one of this differencies is compression ratio (C16=1:11, X16=1:10.5) I also would like to know that if I am right about that, where the difference comes from? From pistons or combustion chamber.

    Best wishes,

    Azmi

    Re: Corsa Maxi rally car

even on 100 octane, i wouldnt want to go for anything more than 12.5-1 compression, possibly a touhc less with thsoe cams, makes the engine a bit more reliable whilst still getting good power and squish

    Hi

i've searched about 1.6 vauxhall engines sometime ago.

basicly i've found that c16xe engine designed with bigger cylinder head ports and a MAF based management.

X16XE engine has MAP+IAT sensor for management and EGR valve. also diffrent intake manifold(cast aluminium alloy) + compression ratio diffrence

X16XEL shares same block with x16xe but uses x14xe head with diffrent intake manifold (not sure about cams)

Z16XE engine has triangular shaped head ports(some say more efficent but less flow than c16 ), drive by wire throttle butterfly and DIS pack over plugs.

    bytheway parts look very attractive
it'll be a good season for you in my opinion

    hope talk to you soon

Always thought that X16XEL is exactly the same as X16XE except camshafts, intake and drive by wire.

Also, always thought that all X16XE X14XE X16XEL have triangular shaped ports. Read about it at SBD once, the article is still there I think... but as you say, flow is always worse than a C16XE's head.

    Its a shame though we can't use a X18XE1/Z18XE head on a X**XE. Much better size/design.

    Re: Corsa Maxi rally car

    Another update:

Well big thanks to Naz for sorting out the group buy on the polycarb windows. Im very impressed with the fit and quality of them.

Tried to fit them with the original corsa seals but this ended in tears and then an hour cleaning the adhesive off the side of the car.
So in the end i just fitted them straight in. Going to run and bead of sealer round the edge then smooth off, just to fill the gap so water doesn't sit there.

Also a quick picture of my new wing mirrors

Also got my Windscreen but its still in Tamworth with the bloke thats doing my brake bells and caliper mounting brackets, so ill pick it all up when they're done.
Also decided against doing the wiring myself and going to get Byron (old school engineering) who built the shell to do it now, which was my original plan!
Just got to start saving some £££'s now for a trailer and the wiring.
Byron has also offered to do me a exhaust system while its there so thats a bonus.

Oh gave the corsa a clean and polish today as it was getting covered in dust!!

    Still to get:
    Exhaust system,
    Wiring loom,
    Tank guard,
    Front arch fillers,
    My seat,
    Harnesses,
    Oil cooler,

Plus a load of little bits and bobs!
This will all have to wait as our first baby is due in three weeks and ive also had to fork out a shed load for a new set of locks for my road car as some w@nker walked into my house while i was upstairs and stole my car keys Luckily not the car though!
