Workers workshop (nova/corsa turbo in progress)

Right well alot of you know who i am , some dont so i thought id make a quick post about my car....

All of this is copied over from Vauxsport where i spend more time these days .

Started life as a 1.6 gsi and did a 15.9 quarter mile pb from previous keeper

Then had 2.0 16v fitted and my pb 14.4

Then i got the bug and wanted faster so opted for some gas to start with, pb went down to a 13.01 with 100 bhp worth of gas and that was as good as i could get no matter how hard i tried!

Stayed like this for a while untill a let came up for reasonable money, Good old ebay..... it lasted around 31 miles iirc msl: I was not a happy bunny after spending thousands!

The engine was rebuilt back to standard spec again with all new parts and it made it to pod this time.... with the gas and managed an 11.9 @ 125.4 mph... i will never forget that day in all my life it was the first time i had been to pod with the let fitted and to say a was chuffed well....... doesnt cut it

At this time the car looked something like this....With a chavvy looking me!
This was on the side of the A45 after pod when i hit the gas whilst not straight and it broke a tie bar clean in half

After such a good day out it deserved a new look so it was taken to bits again and had a full cage fitted and alot more weight taken out to compensate for the cage. Then it was time for some new paint, rear arches, slam panel, crossmember, etc and another whole load of work which left it looking something like this....

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6VEuhFEoc1w

It was brutally fast even on the road off gas

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pjUWl8wc7ZY

In the end this engine gave up too... you would not belive how hard it got used im sure a few on here could tell you msl: msl: msl:
One last trackday at it was fooked again

Kinda got abit fed up of it for a while if im honest it was taking up all of my time and i wanted something abit safer for the winter so i built myself a sleeper cavvy 2WD turbo unstead haha
With 300 bhp it scared most things off and suprised a fair few

Then that was sold as i wanted a GTR and i saved for 6 months solid untill i i got one and that has been such an awesome car so far, always makes me smile everytime i drive it as its a safe fast not ****ing brutal like you just been smacked round the head with a cricket bat msl: msl: msl:

Various other stupid cars along the way that im sure you have all seen!

And now the Nova is back on the cards after a year off.

Spec will be as follows or there abouts... im just getting parts together at the mo

C20LET engine
Sainz rods
Wisco custom comp pistons
rebored block with oil sprays
1.9 mm cometic head gasket
8 v baffle tray
everything ARP'd
Roper head all solid
Custom Piper cams
Custom Exhaust manifold
GT3071R internal gate
Custom inlet
60mm pipework
Helix 6 paddle clutch on lightened xe flat
Pace front mount intercooler the size of Spain
emerald K3 management
RC 750 cc injectors (need room)
Gaz coilovers
15" compo Mo
R888s/bf goodrich drag radials/MT Drags
F28 with ATB diff
Equal shafts
all race bushed
Mocal oil cooler
Pace dry sump system
all aeroquip
200 bhp direct port nitrous
maximiser on full W.O.N kit

And im sure loads more ive missed ,thats got you all bored now and up to date with me. before you start i know my english is ****e! :help:
msl: msl: msl:

New guage

Finally did a little on the nova this week, some of the parts are here some are not! Thought id better update a little as rob has been moaning at me.
Couple of changes had abit of a mock up......
making an inlet at the moment (excuse the paper mock ups)and having to use a peddle box setup now!
Pistons should be here in 1 week and then my block will be straight down to Steve for machine work and squirters fitted. il get my diff and F28 to him at the same time.
Looking likely to run @ TOTB this year but my not make PV runs so its up to Chip really.
Headwork is being done at the moment.
Valves, bronze guides, double springs, titanium caps and solids all here
Very little space in the bay with everything fitted and a cannot wait to get it painted and looking like the rest of the car but thought it best to do any changes now.

Should be some progress most days now in the lead up to PV and the car will be on the stand in whatever state its in at the time.
................and you thought you had alot to do rob.
Wheels went for widening this week to 9" should look cool:lol: got tires here now too.

Far to much money needs spending but oh well....
few pics that i have atm

Getting tight now .... :help:

Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

Time for an update.....
Not been online much or got anything done on the car as i have been working non stop to pay for the bits, most of the bits are here just need to order a clutch and fuel pump on tuesday.
Its got a little out of hand as always and ended up having some cams ground a dry sump kit added and making a custom inlet.
Emerald have held me up alot an I expect to get my ECU and loom off of them this week after 3 weeks of waiting.

Pics of Tial BOV,MSD coilpack

other goodies

pistons with larger valve pockets

cam pulleys,double springs ,solids

bits back from powdercoaters

750 cc injectors

Had a fun evening making my inlet tonight and im very happy with how it has come out, only bit i dont like is the £316 bill for the tapered throttle body plate but its what i needed. just need to get it all welded together this week and get the barbed fittings for vac/boost feeds to various items in place, need to make some choices on the nitrous setup and get the bosses welded on too. If anyone is wondering why i have got such a long runner length its to help get the nitrous in.

Got my head back ported and polished with 1 mm oversized valves and new bronze guides, the double springs and retainers are here with the vernier cam pulleys, had the porous mod done to even though its a Coscast, cant be arsed with the grief later.
Much bigger ports than stock..

Had some rims made for my Mickey T's which i cannot wait to run as im fed up off not using proper power untill 3rd lol
Think these should do the trick!!

Getting the dry sump to fit was...... interesting
The kit does not fit my car so it was made to fit. just need to do a load of plating around the mount area now.Cannnot see how this kit would be fitted to a nova with tiebars in stock position as spaced 50mm down i have 15 mm clearance to the scavenge pipes, starts to look a little busy with everything in there but im liking it, keeps me awake at night

Now everything has been trial fitted the bay can be painted this week and the bottom end built. Quaife diff will be fitted later on today when i take the mock up engine back out, cannot fully build engine out of car as waiting on my cams to get my solid lifters shimmed but in the meantime the block and box will go back in. Had to have my pistons machined for more valve clearance for use with the new cams with all the extra bits it just takes time.

Dreading my Aeroquip bill ATM pmsl

I will update again soon!

Not much to report, more parts have arrived

Old dip tube and breather blanked off

Rocker cover dipped and breathers welded ready for primer

Emerald and loom turned up

Dry sump oil res tank makes a fuel swirl pot look tiny msl:

New nitrous bits turned up

Finished chopping the chassis leg up and started plating it up will finish tomorrow and start plugging a few holes that are unused in the bay and flick some fibreglass/filler around before painting, should have the bay painted about Wednesday,

Then I can build my engine and get it back in after PV
Just a case of bolting it all together and then and alot more expense no doubt!

Cant wait for next weekend now beer without having to worry about driving for once

See you all @ PV

Ooo didnt know this was thw white one, really love the blue..
Why did you route the eushust up thru the floor like that? Dont think i've seen a piston melt like that before... nice work, and snapping a tie bar? Damn!
Love the custom inlet.. looks very nice. But the rims.... oooooooooooo i love them!
Will have to have lookie at pv.

Exhaust is different but with the noise restrictions now in place at most tracks and TOTB i might have to run out of the rear to have more room to shut it up. Most mahles melt in the same way Benn its the 3rd one i have seen like that.

Tie bar was interesting totally lost all steering and bent all bottom arms over etc.
Inlet should work well i hope... im a big fan of nitrous and the gains are great for drag racing on road tires where bigger turbos just cause wheelspin in lower gears

Car will not be at PV but will be out in the next few weeks

Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

looking good!, you can gain some decent clearance on the dry sump pump if you swap the pipe fittings on the pump to jic connectors, not cheap but if you need the room, you can also get the filter baskets that fit in the sump with jic fittings from pace, you wanna try fitting on on the back of the engine, nice bit of kit though

Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

Interesting Gav, didnt realise you were on solids and a dry sump this time round. I imagine its a very similar spec to mine...are you opting for the 35r?
Why the inlet runners so long? Any tappering of the plenum?
