Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

forgotten about my thread just been really busy at work and waiting for all the parts to arrive, started ordering parts in Feb and have ordered a fair amount every week since then....well as much as i can afford msl:

    Gearbox looks very clean now

Clutch did arrive at last after 5 1/2 weeks and flywheel was skimmed

All the bottom end is built up but it took 4 days of chasing to find the correct torque seeting for ARP L19 big end bolts which are 55 lbt/ft if anyone ever needs to know

Inlet is back and looks huge out of the car Welding looks good to me

Hope it all works ok just got to mount the solenoids and distribution blocks where i want them and make the support bars from back of block, soo much room underneath now!!

Tomorrows job is to fit up the Tigra PAS rack and see how much it needs machining, i have been told the pipes are a total arse so i will get it all in before the engine goes back in later this week. All the new bolts for everything turned up today from Autovaux on time i may add just need to fit all the pulleys and pumps etc, torque all the big ends and head down and thats the engine ready.

Slam panel is back from powder coaters and now matches my colour scheme (oh how Bux is that msl: ) and should take the heat from the turbo better too

Updates when i get time later in the week

Is looking good, inlet looks hard core.
How come you have the sump pump mounted to the front?

Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

Had a good day on it today, enlarged the hole in bulkhead for the PAS rack and fitted it up to see how much difference there was (60mm) and got hold of a Paxo pump to get fitted up.

Engine is built now but could not finish as i didnt have a single pulley for alternator which needs to go on before dry sump pulley DOH left the sump off as it is easier to lock crank for doing the E20 bolt up. had to modify the backing plate quite abit to work with the dry sump takeoff plate but it all fits now.

Brake lines, power steering rack/pump and servo and its engine back in time  cant wait should be back in this time next week

very smart, how come you used a pricey sbd manifold instead of just cutting a C20 one? would have been much cheaper.

Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

Inlet ports are oval and the runners on manifold are round, they also need to taper from 50 mm to 42 mm iirc so the sbd manifold was perfect for the job, also comes with a fuel rail which has mountings ect. next manifold will use oval ports and a new flange. I have more money than Rick anyday (NOT), specky has had trouble with his cracking on the join between new and old manifolds too.

Gav that inlet look s**t hot! Is it going to fit??

Re your powewr steering. I gave Jonboy plenty of advice about it, I'm just interested what you do re the track rods being too long as I cant get my Nova through the mOT as it is due to my track rods having being sleeved & welded. Its not road legal.

Let me know what you are going to do or have done? I'm thinking custom track rods next!

Why dont you have the track rods re-threaded then cut and shorten them to the desired length? Thats how i would do it.

The rods actually taper down in thickness right after the std threads end. Thats the logical thing to do Rick I know, first thing I looked at.

Re: Turbo Gavs Nova turbo rebuild thread!

Waited 4 days to get hold of another bottom pulley as sold the last one (twat)

Yet more problems as now the pulley and alternator belt clash with the oil gallery fitting ffs
Have a few ways round it

got the inlet sorted last night and got vac/boost feeds in etc and nitrous injectors in place just need to mount solenoids and plumb it up. I know there are loads of fittings but I ****ing hate T pieces. all used except one

Yes i know they are not facing the correct way but they ended up near middle so i am well happy

Rack is back together and looks spot on just need to clean the pump and mount it before I get the pipes made on Friday night.

sent a few bits off to be blasted as I am a into bling these days hahah

If a can get the pulley sorted before the weekend the engine can go back in as i only get Sundays on the car really.

NEEEEED a fast car back out soon i am starting to get bored of my work van

Nice progress gas, just wondering any reason behind not using a corsa c epas system, as i would have thought would have left you more room/been easier
