Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

The early corsa gsi had C16xe,Late corsa gsi had X16xe. C16xe has same valves as X16 but bigger ports.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Would you not have saved by using Auto Vaux for some parts?

I assume you used your MIG card for trade prices? Just to confirm, that engine is a late GSi X16XE

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

To make it easier when ordering parts, i just order everything for a 1.6 16v Tigra...
As they only have X16xe's fitted

No confusion then.

Possibly, but I'm only ordering silly little things, and postage would have to go on top of Autovaux stuff.

Plus, at a dealer, I can look at the screen, point out what bits I want...etc. I get cheapness anyway as I'm a regular. I think they can tell I'm going to be annoying buying bits for this engine.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Inlet manifold in the post, courtesy of Flame from CS. Top bloke and very helpful.

My bits have arrived at the dealer too. Does anyone know if the big end bolts are stretch bolts? I want this piston out to clean up the bore, but I can only buy big end bolts in bags of ten, and apparently there are two sorts. If they're not stretch bolts I can just re-use them.

I think they are, but re-use them anyway. You'd be surprised how many bolts are stretched ones on an engine that get re-used regularly.

Fair enough!

My manifold has arrived. And I picked up some very nice 256mm callipers from Mr. Ives.

I really appreciate it man, and your directions were spot on.

I thought that too, although I'm tempted to treat the Cav to new discs and pads and put the old stuff on the Corsa, considering the light use it's going to get. Both 256mm x 20mm I think.

oh ****, yes that's dead right ^, i remember the calibra discs being thicker than the corsa's of same size!! Are you sure the cav's arent 24mm too jack ? It would make sense for a bigger car!

I'm unsure of the cav TD BUT 2.0 8v's still use the 24mm width! Does your cav use BB outer CV's?

Both! I'm not heavy on brakes at all, usually because I've got heavy stuff in the boot!

In fact, they squeak something terrible because I never use them properly. They've probably glazed over and I've never braked hard enough to clear them up again.

They looked good when I got the car, and there's still a fair bit of pad left.

For the non-believers.

Before a little clean up with the wire wheel.

Close-up of the bore damage.

Mmmmmm... honey.
