What's your budget towards the engine?

Rolled it out yesterday to swap the wheels around (as I'd borrowed some steels).
Managed to twist my wheelbrace they were on that funking tight.

What could be under this sheet? Is it an elephant? A stack of money? A flower arrangement?
Palletised. Needs the head whipping off as I strongly suspect it has bent valves. Might be time to replace it with a C16XE head with bigger valves?

I'll see what turns up. If I find one for much cheapness, might be worth just lobbing it on. If I can't find one, I'll repair this one.
Anyone got any immobiliser gen? I forgot to grab the key and the thingy around the barrel for this ECU. If I get the key, can I use any sensor ringy thing?
Or can I get this ECU chipped, or use a C16XE one? |

Jack, what you need is the "how to build a sports car on a budget" book.
Then, down to your local metal suppliers and trawl ebay for a damaged CBR1000. Add in a year or so and........

Transponder in key / ECU & pickup barrel for around the Ignition
Save yourself allot of hassle & get it if you can !!
Ortherwise its a case of finding another ECU / Transponder key chip & ignition barrel sensor thingy that matches !

And yeah the pickup barrel is coded too, it matches the key and ecu. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Right. So, basically, what I need to do is:
- Put the fuel pump on it's own circuit. Easy enough, was going to do that anyway.
- Put a switch in the EML wire so I don't have it on all the time.
- Put the diagnostics wire on a switched ground so when I need to check the codes I can just flick the EML on and then flash the codes. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Im not sure if it only immobilises the fuel pump, as i have wired the system into mine and can turn it on and off manually.
When i turn the immob on and turn the key the engine just turns over and over, with just a pump immobilised youd expect the engine to run for a few seconds until the rail pressure was too little to supply enough fuel. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Nah, not at all. The rail would be pressurised for those few turns of the engine. You probably wouldn't even get it trying to start, tbh. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa No Jack. The ECU immobiliser is built in and stops it from doing anything. I think the above is about a 3rd party one. When, on the legendary No-Spec (TM) I changed the fuel filter at Combe (long story) I unplugged the fuel pump and started it. It not only ran for 2-3 seconds, but also started and re-started many times, and then still coughed and spluttered after that. The immobiliser won't let it start at all.
Anyway, cool project. I often have dirty thoughts of a Corsa of some description with a slutty lack of interior and a 20XEV engine. No-Spec was quick, a Corsa has got to be fuuun. Son of No-Spec? |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Exactly my point/\
Id put money on the immobiliser built into the ecu being wired into something else too, maybe the ign live to the dispak as it totally disables the engine, it doesn't even fire.
Whereas my clifford, just cutting power to the pump, the engine runs for a few seconds then dies down |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa as said try and get it if posible but if not it is posible to use a c16xe ecu, you will need ecu, loom, lambda, afm tho so could be costly. if the immobilser doesnt switch off on an x16 engine it will run for a few seconds then cut out.

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa my old one definatly started then cut out when i used a spare key with no chip, make sence what everyone is saying tho that there would be more than one circuit protected if it matched with ecu |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Yeah there's more than one type; one which doesn't let the engine fire, and one which lets it start, but then cuts out, mostly V6s I think. |
