@ the plug leads.

I'd just look at as a learning curve tbh. Half of the point of having a project car, i'd love to have a project like that.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Jack, the Mantzel boxes suffer the same throttle cable angle & I had leaks on my inlet.

Best bet is get the engine running & then spray brake or carb cleaner about the inlet tract, listen for the change in engine note & that will pin point the leak. Mine actually made a squealing/sucking sound where it leaked under the inlet box.

Keep at it.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Access to the alternator is fantastic with the powerbox off so I'll get a bracket on there and get that sorted then stick it all back together.

I've got a horrible feeling I've got the brake servo valve the wrong way round.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

damn, that throttle cable position looks a bit naff . You could make a bracket for the throttle cable and looks like there are 2 convenient mounting holes under the tb pulley mech thing
brake servo valve being opposite way round would give exactly the symptoms youre having, coming to think of it !! swap it and see

Undo the pipe at the inlet box end, you should be able to suck air from the servo, but not blow into the servo. Anything else is wrong or 1-way valve has failed.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

First thing's first, a ****ing waffle and kit-kat sandwich!

Not much progress I'm afraid as it's ****ing cold on my poor soft little hands and I'm never home during the ****ing daylight! It's either pitch black, I'm at work or I'm in Stafford at uni.

My hero of a dad managed to scrounge an alternator bracket from the Isuzu man who's on the same industrial estate. Apparently it's from a 3.0 engine and fits like a dream! Good to know there's a little bit of Japanese Isuzu quality somewhere on my engine. Ignore the dodgy rubber washers, it's all I could find to space it with, although it holds the belt pretty tight so it might stay like that.

Wasn't long before I'd got the inlet back on and everything plumbed back in ready for a test. Still got a bastard air leak. Need to whip it all apart again and do some proper testing with it methinks. I had got the servo one-way valve the wrong way round! I made some decent piping as well using some elbows for garden irrigation systems!

Got my sticker on as well, just to warn passengers! Don't want any people soiling themselves! Might have to spend another 99p on seats!

In retrospect, probably not the best idea to show my bits to the world!

Make one and tell me it's wrong. Tell me, when you've got sweet sweet waffle goodness and melty kit-kat in your mouth that it's wrong.

But they aren't even potato waffles.....

Well if they are then they are pitiful excuses for waffles.

Potato waffles are for sausages and beans breakfast!

Aye, it's pretty slow though. As soon as I've sorted this poxy air leak then the engine is finished. Then it's onto the suspension, brakes and moving the battery. Then it's finishing touches! I don't think I can afford to put it on the road much before the summer. At the moment I'm paying rent on two houses and running the Cavalier.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Getting fed up of doing this now. Had the manifold off again and had a play with it. Put it all back together and still air leak. Had it all off again and tested it against a stanley knife blade, it's as bent as a £9 note!

Fed up to the back teeth of this ****ing manifold. Serves me right for buying a cheap nasty one. I've emailed the seller and asked him if he'll consider sending me a proper one or refunding me. I paid more for this manifold than I did for the car and so far all it was good for was the random hoses and pipes that came with it.

In the mean time I've put a bid on a proper one on ebay! This engine is going to run properly, dammit!

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

I don't think it's thick enough to skim. It's only about 3mm thick, and you'd need to take more off to get it flat. I had the same problem with the TB flange; the whole thing has been made far too thin and it's all distorted as he's welded it together.

The TB flange was replaced with a 10mm thick piece, but I'm sick of this manifold, it's a piece of ****. It'll end up more patches than cloth and I just want something that bolts on and works with no leaks!

The fit is truly wank, and I can't wait to get a proper one on there.

Enthusiasm is way up now! Can't wait to get it running nicely with no air leaks and get the Spax kit and the 256mm brakes on!
