| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa No, the issue is to find a small block flywheel & clutch that will bolt to the 2.0 crank's bolt pattern. Do that & you can retain the smallblck box & shafts aswell as leave the gear linkage untouched etc. Its only 1 engine mount to change aswell then.
Maybe not so sensible on an XE but the ecotec seems a tad less torquey, so will be fine. |

I think I'm really going to need advice and stuff like this throughout the build. I'm alright doing stuff, but I need gen like this. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Hurry up & drop the 1.2 off at the metal merchants, clean the bay, get it ready for some power!
I'd be keeping an eye on the bay for decent fr shocks & springs. Maybe a cheap XEV too to start a mini resto on.. belts, gaskets, tensioners etc. |

Easy conversion, cheap as chips to buy stuff - Just make sure and do the sensors before fitting it !!
Dont bother with the 1.4 16v - If anything go with the (Early i think) 1.6 16v engines

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa dont dick about, 1.6 16v corsas are slow, and you wont spend the money on tuning it properly.
Find a calibra/cav, break it to recover your funds and fit an xe.
Youll need hubs, bearings, mounts and an ecotec plate and not a lot else. donor car will give you box, shafts, brakes..............
I did mine for 700 quid including buying the corsa! (and it got new everything)

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa The 1.6 engines are really restricted by the poxy inlet manifold. Getting one made up isn't an issue, and should be fast enough to keep me quiet.
I may have just sourced an engine, box, loom, ECU and shafts for £150, so watch this space. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Im well aware of the 1.6 engine and its tuning options, sadly with a box plenum and no remap/cams you wont see more than 130bhp ish, you simply cannot beat the xe for cheap thrills IMO |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa I'm sure a 130bhp 1.6 in a stripped out Corsa will be plenty fast enough for me when you bear in mind that my previous three cars have been a N/A diesel land rover, a 1.4 astra and a TD cavalier. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Cool project.
Dont got for a 1400, just as much work as a 1600, and the 1600 has more power/torque.
Id give an ancient 2L 8v a miss too.
20xe is best option for cheapness vs power, but your going need decent suspension etc for it.
A 1600 16v with an inlet box on is cool, but for a track car, more power/bigger engine is needed IMO And to get over the 125/130hp mark on the 1600 16v is when prices start to rise. |
