I don't even know where to start looking to solve this. The motivation boost I got when it started up has well and truly run out.

- I ran few new earths last weekend and it started and ran.
- It ran with the exhaust on.
- It ran with the exhaust off.
- The exhaust needed lengthening so that it would join together properly.
- Dad took it to work and lengthened it using an offcut from the 1.2 exhaust.
- Exhaust on.
- Same starting problem as the weekend before.
It turns over, it coughs a bit, sometimes almost goes... but nothing. Not a sausage.
I need a proper screw-in compression tester I think. I've only got a poxy rubber-ended one at the moment. I also needs some new leads as these ones are covered in oil from when the rocker cover was leaky before.
I just can't believe that it ran last weekend absolutely fine and now is back to square one.
I need to have a serious look at it this weekend. I'm sure it's something fundamental and will be obvious after I've found it, but at the moment I'm just not feeling it at all. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Check for fuel. Take the fuel inlet pipe off and see if a big squirt of fuel comes out on cranking. Or, lift the back seat and listen for the pump whilst cranking. Fuel pump fuse OK?
Check for all 4 sparks.
Put the kettle on. |

As Dan says check for fuel (although pump whirring or rail pressurised does not necessarily mean injectors are pulsing) |

Are you able to flash up any fault codes?

I might check the fuses, seems an obvious thing to do!
I went through the wiring diagram last night and traced a load of wires so I've got a fairly comprehensive list of things to check with my multi-meter over the weekend. I'm 95% sure it's an electrical problem as it started up and ran not two weeks ago.
My one other thought it that maybe the fuel pump isn't 100%, so I'll have the hoses off over the weekend and see if I can pump some fuel into a 2 litre bottle. Aside from that I really am stumped, and I don't have the space to do any serious stripping down. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Took this photo a few days ago and have to put it up here. Someone's stolen both of my cars!
Did some messing around today. Gave the Cavalier a quick once over and finally got round to test-fitting the centre caps that have lived in the car since Billing. They fit really well, better than the current caps actually.
Looks alright, and a lot tidier than having some random caps missing. I'm almost tempted to have the wheels off and give them a quick going over with some silver, they are starting to look a bit scruffy.
Right, onto the Corsa! I decided to go back to basics this morning. Forget about wiring diagrams, wire colours and sensors and just do some basic checks. First thing was to check for fuel. I took both hoses off the rail and stuck them both into bottles. Gave it a quick crank and then checked.
Right, so at least the pump is playing ball.
Took the plugs out... and this is where things get interesting.
Number one was as black as your hat.
But number two looked fine.
Number three was black too. What the deuce?
Number four was fine.
I cleaned them all up with a bit of emery tape and then had a closer look at the leads. I followed them all the way along to the dispack where I noticed something very strange. Number 1 is at the top, but they are not numbered sequentially! Could it be that I've had the leads on wrong the entire time?
I put it all back together and it fired up first time. It revved right up so I knocked it off. I found another MAP sensor and plugged a hose straight from the manifold to the sensor. When I started it up after that it did that stupid revving up and down thing. Didn't stop me going for a drive in it though! |

I'm such an idiot.
Managed to get it to idle, but it's idling high and there's a massive air leak on it somewhere. Can hear air being drawn in somewhere. Whipped the powerbox off and to my surprise was sealed all the way round. Looked fine, actually! Might have the bottom half of the manifold off. There's definitely a massive air leak somewhere.
Sounds alright though, I'm pleased it sounds as well as it does. |

Check the brake servo pipe, and all the vacuum hoses for air leaks.
Also, the tb to inlet join |
