Been to get the wheel re-sealed today, touch wood it looks fine! The wheel is slightly buckled and I assumed that was causing the leak, but it looks fine and dandy now.

I noticed when I got the car that the headlights flap up and down slightly, so I thought I'd get the bumper off and just see how the headlights are fixed. Turns out the one on the passenger side is missing that little plastic square that fits in the shell, but that's not my only problem.

Crust-central!

A bit of thumb action rubbed off a whole load of paint that was held on with hopes and dreams.

Ta-da! The wire brush revealed that it was a whole lot more crusty than it initially looked.

Not beyond saving though.

Not much better. It was all surface rust though, and a quick brush over with my magical rust-removal stuff (****ing evil stuff) soon had it back to bare steel.

Primer. Found some black Hammerite too, so that went over the bottom bit to go some way towards protecting it from stone chips and stuff.

Had to go to Halfords and get some paint while the primer was drying. On the way back I saw dad on the roof of the house (wtf? ) so I thought I'd join him! Turns out he was messing with the guttering, and I couldn't resist a quick photo of Brian.

No need to mask stuff up.

First coat of red. Just have a quick gander at that flake on the leading edge of the nearside wing...

Doesn't look too bad! And at least it will fend the rust off.

Also touched up a patch of rust and flakey paint on the wing. Blends really well with the old paintwork.

Bumper back on. Doesn't look too bad!

Ah well, at least it's not rusty any more.

Seriously need to get it running now. Once I'm convinced that it runs I'll crack on with the suspension and the brakes.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

get a new battery from vaux, only £35 for a corsa GO battery, or £42 for a bigger one.

you got a halfrauds trade card or you still getting shafted for the price of paint?

my crossmemebr went there to but i didnt get to mine as early as you did so i had rather large holes to patch

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

I've got a battery that came on the Corsa. I charged the JD one because I thought we might need a bigger battery if we're going to be cranking it over trying to start it. Turns out the JD one is naff.

Think I paid £5 something a can, which isn't too bad. Glad I caught it, I'm almost tempted to take all the rest of the plastics off the outside and see how bad the rest is.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

IT RUNS!

Spent today tidying up yet more rust, and dad came down this afternoon to have a poke and try and coax it into life. It runs and sounds fantastic with just the manifold and downpipe on.

Took the rear bumper off and half of the tinwork with it. So in true IT technician style... it's not a bug, it's a feature! Weight saving!

Attacked it with a screwdriver and a hammer and knocked all the crusty bits into a bin bag.

All painted up beautifully. It might fend off the rust for a bit longer while I have some fun in it.

Oh, and did I forget that it runs? It ****ing runs baby, yeah!

No exhaust, no gear linkage, no alternator... no chance.

I can't wait to be able to drive it out of the garage though instead of having to push it up a poxy hill.

A 6mm bolt didn't work so I had to put my hand in my pocket and order a pin.

And as I need an oil pressure sensor I ordered this on the off-chance. It was only a couple of quid.

they get sloppy, you can drill the hole out and use an M8 bolt and nut to tighten it up

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Was having issues with my linkage hitting the steering rack, so time to get busy! I was using a piece from an Astra turned upside-down, which I assumed was the same and it turns out is considerably longer than the Corsa piece.

Doh!

This was my home for an hour while I faffed around.

Cosy! It was raining outside so had to make do in a poxy garage. The linkage is all together and works perfectly now. It's a bit notchy, but I'd rather it was notchy than sloppy. Got all five gears and reverse first time.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

While the car was in the air I sorted out the oil pressure switch. We'd cut a bit of wiring in our attempt to get something to work, so it was a case of making a wire for the switch from what we had.

The bits! The plug had barely any wire attached to it.

Some glue to make it waterproof.

Job done. Easy.

Ghetto water pipe.

Coolant system finished.

The cat I have is a bit rattly, and a few shakes got this out of it.

Still loads left.

Before anyone says anything, the brake servo pipe is just to test.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Not yet! We need some nuts and bolts for the exhaust and a throttle cable and it's ready to move.

Chav drove it when it was a 1.2, and he said it was ****.
