Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Had a few little presents in the post.

A snake!

My Spax kit from Andy.

Spent ages slipping my loom into the tubing. Took ****ing ages, but I've got it down to an art now. Plugged in all the obvious bits (big blue plug and crank sensor ) and now I'm a bit stuck. Not an awful lot else is leaping out at me.

On top of all that, one of my new tyres was ****ing flat when I got there this morning and I've broken my ****ing garage door!

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Jobs to do:

- Charging circuit tubed up and installed
- Battery in (just temporarily to test, eventually will be slid in the boot)
- Charging circuit connected to main loom
- Engine loom mated to main loom
- Engine loom attached to the engine
- Sort out all vacuum hoses (I've got two barbs on the TB that I've got no idea what they're for, and I don't know where the servo feed goes either )
- Fit coolant hoses. Double check cooling system and tentatively fill with coolant.
- Fit exhaust manifold and cat. Join to the rest of the system.
- Fill with oil.
- Check clutch.
- Sort out gear linkage.

At some point it needs starting up just to make sure it runs. I think that will be a real motivation booster. At the moment I'm pissed off that my loom wasn't a bit more straightforward and that I haven't really made any progress today. That flat tyre was a real let down as well. ****ing gutted.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Nice neat job on the loom.
I can name where every plug goes from that pic

On the tb, the two 8mm brass barbs are for the coolant connection, its not needed if you have a box inlet fitted as the pipes no longer reach. Just leave the barbs open and put a bolt in the end of the coolant pipe that used to go to them.
Inlet box should have a threaded union on it for the brake servo, and a barb to go to the map sensor.

Any chance you could knock some quick labels up in paint or something? I'm sure it would be helpful to everyone, not just me.

Ah, legend. Thanks muchly.

The tubing is a bastard to start with, but there's a real knack to it.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Its tricky put labels on that pic, but it should go a bit like this(Starting at the ecu end going towards the end of the loom(gearbox end))
This may help

Black fuse holder-Thick wires-For SAI system, not needed, just tie out the way- 1
Blue multiplug-2
Small grey plug-Intake air temp sensor(onto a sensor in the air pipe that you will have make yourself as you no longer have the std inlet)-3
Two 8mm rings-Earths, onto a stud by the alternator-4
Two pin plug, and a small spade plug, on a long bit of loom-Coolant sensor and dash temp sender- Thermostat housing-5
GREEN plug-Map sensor on firewall-map sensor also has a vacuum connection to the inlet-6
Small Ring-Earth-Bolts onto the side of the lower inlet.-7
1/2 Rings-Earths-Bolt to where the TB used to bolt, lower side of bottom inlet(will need a plate to blank off where the tb used to fit the inlet btw)-8 Theres two "8" on the pic
Black plug-Crank sensor plug, which joins the crank sensor wire near the fuel pressure regulator-9
Black plug-DISpak plug-10
Blue plug with red clip-Fuel tank vent valve-11
Thin black wire with single plug on-Lambda sensor-12
Big grey plug-SAI pump(not needed)-13
Smaller two pin plug-SAI changeover valve( should be near to the grey plug mentioned above), again, not needed.-14

Any probs, give me a pm/txt

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Found the MAP sensor still on the bulkhead. I didn't know the 1.2 had one.

Stuck my exhaust manifold on with a sexy new gasket. I'm missing a couple of studs and a whole crapload of nuts. I might have to start a shopping list.

Lou went for a walk to Morrisons to get me a sammich, so while she was gone I made up the fuel hoses. I went to the scrapyard and got these from an Ecotec Vectra. I've just sleeved them over the top of the existing hoses and jubilee clipped them up. Not sure which way round they go. I'll stick 12v to the fuel pump when I swap it to the MPI pump and see which hose the juice flings out of.

No cutting of the loomage required! Plugs straight in! I was shocked and amazed!

Rolled the corsa out of the garage and almost straight into the side of the cav! Forgot I'd snapped the handbrake cable. Yet another job to put on the list!

I've connected up the charging loom to the alternator, and the starter motor. Connected the three-pin job to the engine loom and the engine loom to the car loom. It's all plugging in sexily.

Look how dreamy I looked last night. Sexy face + Cavalier TD + Deathtrap Corsa = as sexy as Spanishfly?

I don't have any. All of these little fiddly ****ty jobs are pissing me off, and I've got no idea which wires are which or which bits go where.

At the moment I'm trying to do all the obvious things and hopefully the small jobs will get a bit clearer then.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

She kept stealing my chips!

A quickie... I've found a small thingy connected to my old bit of inlet manifold. It looks like it takes a vacuum feed. It has two barbs on it, and I've found the bit of loom it connects to. What is it?

I think I need EPC or something. If it was a Land Rover I'd be fine!

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Yarp, a little two-pin job.

What the crap does it do? Obviously one of the pipes goes to the inlet manifold.

It all seemed quite straight-forward when we were stripping the car down, but now it's time to put everything back I've suddenly got boxes of random hoses that must go somewhere.
