Why? No more a bitch to insure than any other modified car.

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Engine going in this weekend all being well.

I want to get the engine running nicely before I do anything else to the car. Once that's in and working, I can hack apart the dash and fit the digidash and get my transducer working with the ECU.

Then I can fit my Spax suspension that arrived today (but no-one was in ), my 256mm brakes and my sexy wheels.

The Cavalier is modified too. The engine is tweaked slightly, it has a boost gauge, SRI bumpers and BSA alloys.

I don't have any no claims.

If I was that fussed about insuring a modified car then I wouldn't have bothered building it.

cant see it being a problem to insure really, especially if you go limited milage, tpft and low value

Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa

Biggest cable tie ever...? Or tiny pixie hands?

Vauxhall had ordered me the wrong hose, so I chopped the split end off the old one and fitted it anyway.

Our trusty steed for the day!

Up and on axle stands. Some very dodgy rusty sounding noises when it was lowered onto the stands.

Let the fun begin!

Our trusty steed once again. Not a bad van actually! Dead easy to get stuff in and out of. Which is obviously the most important thing ever when considering your van or other commercial vehicle.

Phwoooooaaaarrrrr!

Me sleeping on the job. Undoing the bastard rear mount! I get all the ****ty jobs.

Can you hear that? That's the sound of 8v fail.

"I'm here to fix your fridge."

Careful! Steady! Steady now. To me. To me. To you.

Slipped out like Allvaux slips out when his misses is asleep.

Avast!

Ooooh, empty!

Ewwww. Can't help but feel sorry for the poor little thing.

We stole the flywheel bolts from the 1.2 as we'd left all ours in Sudbury. We had the bolts holding the gearbox on too.

Herculean amounts of strength needed to wiggle this about. I struggled.

Lou got busy cleaning the engine bay with a bit of WD40 and a rag.

Happy boy.

Slipping in like a lubricated salmon.

Just for the taste of it. Diet coke.

Toight like a toiger!

Ah yes, GSI shafts are massive compared to puny standard 1.2 shafts!

We used the original 8v engine mount and gearbox mount. Fits a dream!

Driveshafts all in nicely and rolled back into bed. We put two of the new wheels on too, just to see what they looked like. Looks like a tractor with the standard suspension!

Bye bye old engine. Sadly I had to follow it into the skip so I could retrieve the shackles and bolts, only to find I couldn't get out. Good to see all this indoor climbing is paying off!

Nah, we've not touched the electrics or anything like that yet. The short shaft will have to be played with again as it's got a split CV gator.

That was a bitch to split apart. Although the rear half of the exhaust looks pretty new, which is a bonus.

Was going to do some more to the car today, but I've just got back from messing with a straw walker on a combine and it's too bloody hot to do anything.

Feel a bit more confident about the wiring now I've been and had a look. It was pretty dark, so I took some photos with the flash so I could have a look when I got home.

I've sorted the clutch cable out and adjusted it all up too. The pedal feels lovely.

The little nugget in it's bed. Looks dead cosy in there!

Clutch cable in and adjusted up. Feels very nice!

I guess this is where the alternator/starter loom plugs into the car loom?

What's this random plug that's on the same bit of car loom?

This is the ECU-end of the X16XE loom. The black plug on the left is the one I'll be using to interface with the car loom, am I right?

This is the business end. Needs tidying up desperately.

The little engine in it's new home. The shell is a bit crusty in places as you can see in this picture. I'm tempted to get a few cans of primer and a few of red and try and dress it up as best I can. A lot of it is just surface rust, but if I can nip it in the bud now...

Sexy interior!

Nearly there now Jack shouldn't take too long to get the engine running now.

- Fuel pipes
- DIS
- Loom tidied up
- Loom installed nice and neatly
- Exhaust all sorted
- Remember to fill with oil

Got plenty of things to do. I can't wait to turn the key and start it up for the first time.

I need to make a bit of loom for my ignition sensor ring too.
