how come you helicoiled the flange why not just tap it? would have been cheaper.
if you take the box to an engine builder they should be able to skim that flat for you for about £20 |

IMO something that works is something that is user friendly and is fit for purpose. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Aye, thicker plate would help, as if you bolt them down to tight, it bends down the top plate, with it only being thin alloy.
Ive had no trouble with mine though, and my engine made 127bhp in this months TV RR feature |

Originally Posted by Lugy IMO something that works is something that is user friendly and is fit for purpose. | I agree to a point. I mean... he's gone to the trouble of including nuts, bolts, jubilee clips, bit of hose...etc, everything I'd need to fit it. So why not make sure the manifold fits properly?
Having said that, it's a lot cheaper than buying a Mantzel or branded powerbox. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's a lot less restrictive than the standard inlet system.
LLTN, what have you done to your engine besides the inlet? I'm thinking the inlet and the flywheel might be enough for me for now, but I don't know any other cheap and easy ways of improving these engines without getting serious.
After the inlet is on properly, we can go over the engine and make sure everything's all there and cool, then we can crack on with fitting it. I can't wait to pull the old 1.2 out and get this new engine in and mounted up. As soon as the big stuff is in and finished, I can crack on with the fiddly jobs like the wiring, gear linkage, throttle cable...etc. At the moment I feel like there's not really a lot I can do.
Hopefully Mr. Racer will be at Billing so I can collect my suspension off him.
And as soon as I get paid I'm getting the front brakes sorted and my sexy wheels on! |

Well, I say tube... some rough lengths of copper pipe.... |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa My engine had Mild kent cams(pretty much std lift/duration), de-cat, straight through exhaust, and the inlet box, and made 127bhp@ 6662rpm(the limiter), At Jamsport in March.
A Corsa Gsi with JUST a inlet box made 120bhp on the same RR.
Full writeup in this months tv.
Mine now has a 4-1 manifold and 2.25 SS system, but i now really need a higher rev limit, as it was peaking at the limiter even with the standard exhaust manifold/downpipe/ |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Cool stuff! If mine makes 120bhp I'll be chuffed.
I think trying to get much more out of it is going to be too expensive. I'll run the 1.6 for a bit and see how I get on with it. Hopefully it'll be fast enough so that I don't get bored of it, but we'll see. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Though stripping it you have to really think about. I wouldn't suggest it if you do any more miles than a quick drive to work every day tbh.
Its gonna be a little flyer
brace, new bushes and arb's front&back will make it a lot 'sharper' too |

1.6 8v flywheel and clutch gubbins on the left, 1.6 16v on the right.
Dad wouldn't take my word for it that we could use my good pressure plate with the 8v stuff.
TB going on.
Ooooh, very nice.
Some blobs of sealant under the manifold.
That's about it for today. My shopping list for this week:
- A complete set of water hoses. Not sure what I've got or what I haven't got, so going to just buy a whole lot.
- Some new spark plugs
- Big oil breather from the rocker cover
We're getting to that stage where there really aren't a lot more jobs to do before we've got no excuse to get the engine in. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa glad your dad told you about the pressure plate, youd have been sat in the car not being able to depress the clutch if you used the 16v one on the 8v fly
friction plates are interchangeable however. |

But the 16v pressure cover/plate is different to suit the POT fly.... |

The one I got with the 8v stuff is knackered, but I knew that when I bought it. The 16v one slips in a treat though.
Does anyone know how similar the water pipework is to the 1.2? Some of the hoses I'm missing or we've cut taking them off. |

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa i think you should be ok with most of the hoses you got on the 1.2, the way id go about it is stick it in and then see what ones you need and what you can make fit.

| Re: Project Deathtrap: Jack's 1.2 Corsa Yeah, that might be what we end up doing. Although the current saying is "we might as well do this, because it will never be as easy as it is now with the engine on a stand."
My wallet dives for cover every time anyone says that! |
