Circuit Astra XE

Hello and greetings from Bulgaria,

The story started about 4-5 years ago, when I got my first car - a German import '92 Astra Mk3 GSi with the C20NE engine (very uncommon modification in the UK as far as I know). This is how it looked:

I purchased a few bits and pieces through the years (supersprint headers, Kent cams Ast15 kit, port'n'polished head, full engine rebuild, C20SEH pistons etc. and ended up with a pretty nervous C20NE I started racing last year

The 2007 season finished, the car survived (with a few scratches).
This year we've been (I say we because I have a few friends helping me out with know-how, tools etc. etc.) working mainly on the shell...well it has over 15 years of exploitation so it had to be stiched up, strenghtened and painted. First thing - get everything out, and give it a good clean and cut where needed.

The shell finished:

Few little extras:

We decided to go for the valver this year...the 8v prooved to be very suitable for learning the whole concept of racing on a track with others around you, but it wasnt competitive...
Got some cams from Risse Motorsport, engine rebuild again

Hope you find the project interesting

Looks as though the shell is rot free too. Probably just the uK climate that kills them off. Suspension top mounts look purposefull too.

Keep us updated.

Those brake hoses are horrid to fit. I bought 2 sets and none fitted. They looked just like those.

Re: Circuit Astra XE

Terry, mine fitted straight on, no probs at all?

MPH - PM

Well, one race is behind us...and one broken engine. The rebuild was done by a specialist, the moment she saw 7400rpm she dropped a rod bearing
So much for the specialist, now we are rebuilding the engine ourselfs, and as we speak it should be clocking its first miles/kilometers Next race is Saturday/Sunday , hope it goes well.

Here she is, on the way back - brokenhearted
