Melv's 1995 5dr Astra sport

Had this car for nearly 2 years now.

Travelled from NE Scotland to Edinburgh for a 1 female owner, 45K mile, FSH, 5dr 1.8 Sport. Totally standard plus a cat 1 alarm

Took it home and fitted the 15's I had on my old TD along with Irmscher door badges.

Little did I realise these were ph2 GSi wheels or i'd never have sold them for £80

I then found owners clubs. Bad move (in a good way) as I've modded it to my taste now.

got a customs backbox made (twin square pipes FTW ) and fitted some truly awful wolfrace wheels (these change, don't worry) and painted the calipers in high temp post office red

lowered it 40mm on a spax non adjustable kit

wondered why my windows steamed up in the rain

fitted GSi rear lights (better pics below) a regal sports cat (no pics im afraid) added a K+N panel filter, 60mm rear springs and had it rolling roaded

126.4BHP at wallace performance in Aberdeen. Nice!

The chrome lip on the wheels decided they didn't me and ended up like this

not good. so off they came and they were thrown in the garage over winter.

I also removed the smoked headlights I had. Driving with them on at night was dangerous. You could drive on full beam with 100/80W bulbs and other road users still didnt know I was on full beam!

I left on the smoked indicators and smoked v grill for a while though and added flatblade wipers.

It was then back to the fine weather so I fitted the wheels and stealth shelf my other half had on her GSi replica and raised the rear from -60 to -40 again.

in my infinate wisdom I then bought another sport from Ox on mk3oc.com for £200 to rob some parts from.

I removed the front bumper, blue LED switches, electric sunroof, rear wiper motor, interior, cams, coil pack, plugs, leads, illuminated visors, illuminated grab handles, some other bits and bobs oh, and this...........

3ish week old Lexhaul manifold (retail price new - £330)

Result!!! I then sold the bumper, sunroof, interior, rolling shell and some other bits and was left with a Lexmaul manifold, CC handles, LED switches and a £10 profit. :heh::heh::heh:

A mate then bought a 2.0 8v mk3 which had Masitaly presidents on it. I offered him a straight swap for my fooked wolfrace wheels and amazingly he said yes! [Mr Burns] Excellent! [/Mr Burns]

I also de-tangoed the rear lights. What an improvement IMO

Next job was getting the manifold fitted. big thanks to Murray, neil105, Lugy, coupe-bertone and m4rtin from here for the help at the McMIG BBQ '07 meet

I have now fitted mk4 side repeaters, returned the grille and front indys to standard. (no pics of the repeaters as yet)

Took it on the 1/4 mile at Crail. with a pair of sport steels on the front. 16.362 secs @ 85.4mph

I fitted a set of 6000K hi/lo HIDs (thanks to Houghtimo from mk3oc)

a set of genuine Vauxhall ph2 headlight protectors

Thats about it so far. I will get some updated pics once I get the masitaly wheels fitted again and lower the rear back down to 60mm

Re: Melv's 1995 5dr Astra sport

  • Clean and re-fit the 17's CHECK
  • Take apart and clean the rear brakes to see if that gets rid of the squeeking CHECK and fitted Mintex rear pads
  • Wash, hoover, polish, etc, etc CHECK
  • Maybe fit the -60mm rear springs I have since the Masitalys are a friendlier offset compared to the chavy wolfrace wheels. CHECK
  • Get cracked screen replaced CHECK well tomorrow

done it all plus changed the oil and filter and changed the rocker cover gasket as it was leaking slightly. Just need to chuck in fuel and drive the 1086.6 mile round trip to PV.

Some more pics in case anyone is remotely interested
