ah i see, thats the heater matrix sorted, the one from the inlet manifold above the alternator goes to the throttle body, out the otherside and then to the header tank, so can disreguard that one, runnin throttle body's any way! so thats just the turbo coolant hoses if anyone has any idea's?![]()
The reason i was thinkin bout Darcys today was because the small pipe out of the head is a bleed off to prevent air locks. If I were you I'd get a small tube brazed onto the rad so you can run it... I'm gonna suggest it to Darcy too, just in case.
With regards the water cooled turbo, just leave them off! Turbos don't NEED water cooling... They're quite happy running without!
I don't need a hammer, I got a DONK!!!
hey dudes, any progress? how's the jag diff works going ?!
i made a shopping list for your nova

78 Kadett C 2.0 8v turbo
hi mate cheers for the email. ill be getting on with that one pretty soon. think ill turbo the 8v motor as its alreday a courtney converted motor with lower comp etc plus like u said, easied to work on. well the diff is stripped, seems servicable but we need to do some mods as the halfshafts need to bottom out on something for the wheel bearings to load up against, think we've sorted that now. just took collection of the coilovers for the rear so will need to make up some platforms for the springs as they didnt come with any suitable for this application, im gonna print off the document now and have a read over tonight, see if i can start getting my head around it. cheers again
she's coming together nicelyz!
I don't need a hammer, I got a DONK!!!
Been a bit slow this thread methinks, time for a revival Darce?
The old girls back in dock ready for phase 2 development and i'll make sure we get lots of pics an updates as and when we make headway on anything.

ill try and get some more pics up soon, the scimitar axle and power lock diff are on courtesy of some top welding work by dean, coupled to an omega box. the gods have been against us this time, nearly writing it off towing it to deans as the axle seized up at 55mph, spinning 180 deg, both the kadett and my 106 towing itthankfully both cars came away unscaved. went for mapping last sat while i was in work, all was sounding good with it producing 1.5 bar at 3.8k rpm, then another phone call... setting up the fuel map at 5800 it let go, dropping onto 3 cyl then blowing water out the pressure relief on the cap. melting number 3 piston, scoring number 2 and scoring the block, also burning the tips off 3 of the plugs. going over the data on the dta, water temp was good at 87 degrees then rose to 107 in 5 seconds as it let go, inlet tempsat 40 degrees. the mapper is saying its due to too high compression. the head has had a skim but is not that thin, using 87mm low comp omegas. my mate had his similar spec corsa done there the previous week pushing close to 400bhp, his could run 10 degrees advanced ignition where mine would pink anything over 0 degrees tdc, thats why they are saying its compression but i think its run lean, the plugs are white and number 3 piston has got that hot its ovalised the hole for the gudgeon pin, so iv got a thicker gasket, 2x new pistons and an unskimmed head to rebuild it this week. i just dont know where i stand with the mappers as im sure its their fault as there must of een warning signs that the cylinders were getting hot??? any info or views are appreiated
wow, a couple of bits of pretty bad news there![]()
it WILL be at pvs if it kills me
Engine dont sound good.
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
faccck, lots of bad news therespecially the engine, quite a lot of time and efford (and £££ lol) has gone down the pan
.
'too high compression' sounds like a bad excuse tbh, specially with the omegas. What AFR was it running and is that on the datalog, that would be your best indicator
what's the omega box like? I might need one soon too hehe![]()

Was making 1.5 bar at 3.8k......then they decided to set the fuel map??
No wonder its melted.
As a few other have said above, if there was a probelem with comp. ratio, evident by det and/or not being able to get ignition in there the run should have been aborted. The lack of ignition was only ever going to put more heat ito the situation.
Who tried to map it?
"THE ROB"
i had a look at the datalog, and doesnt seem like any signs of it going, had been on the rollers for 4hours. but some how its def ran lean and some point, but no definate 'this has caused it' sort of thing.
mates rolling road mapped it, but tbf there usually pretty good...obv not this time and usually pretty careful. so thats one reason why abit gutting too as dont really have a definate answer to why it went. tbh i dont think the CR had that much to do with it. im not clued up on mapping side i just like building the engines. but something doesnt seem right as it just 'went'
i was up til 7am wed morning after stripping the new head, porting/polsihing it, got it built back up yesterday and ready to go back on. new blocks been bored, and new pistons/head gasket ordered.
so ill have the engine rebuilt for tonight, so can get dropped back in 2moz and run in
omega box is a fun mod to do, we had the box out 7 times trying to get the clutch to work properly. as you have to space the slave cylinder off the box!

Philip is is possible it was on the rollers for so long it just ran low enough on fuel to the point of surge?Or maybe thats covered with swirl pots etc?
I'd be a little concerned with not being able to get any igntion in it, that straight away would send alram bells ringing. And if nothing has been adressed on the rebuild then surly its just gonna do the exact same again.
Or maybe it did have plenty ignition and the numbers on screen arent representative of the actual timing, worth checking i reckon.
"THE ROB"
rob - possibly, i dont know as its darcys car, i dont know if he saw how much fuel was in it. when came off, but its on a swirl pot set up. mate who ive just built a head for on the said corsa running about 400bhp, was at the rollers most of the day while the kadett was on, so whatever it was that caused the problem 'just let go' so to speak. as said the lads are very good at mapping, so its quite a big suprise that its happened.
darcy did think the head may of been porous, but again darcy could give you a better answer. water temp shot from low 90 deg to 109 deg in 5secs, so maybe heads let go and superheated the water, but dont know what effect that would have on the piston melting!
as for the rebuild. were using an unskimmed head(abliet a 5thou skim) and instead of a 3layer HG, now using a 5layer, to help drop the CR.
the car had already been mapped to 5.4k on yellows, but capped at 5.2k rpm limit, then darcy fitted some 750cc injectors i think this time around, so they had to adjust all the fuelling across what they had done, then were getting upto 5.8k up.

Whats happening with this Old Skool Cool machine now ?????
i seen it at PV and i got a semi, its really that cool.
Darcy is that a home made top mount manifold as im looking one for t3/t4 RWD layout too..?
Rear Wheel is the only way to Drive
its a 200sx manifold with the xe flange welded upside down so turbo sits above not below iirc.
once back from pv, had lad at rollers check ecu over, and think its running 18psi instead of the 8 or so it was running at PV.
