LET into SRI130 shell MK2

Just wondering how easy the above would be!?

Am looking at obtaining an SRI130 sheel and obviously placing a LET into her, just wondered how much work is really involved!?

I know the engine out, then engine in, new loom, was not sure if I had to do any channeling or anything serious to the shell to enqure the engine and aux will fit!? wondering that as I am aware that an XE will fit as in the calibre!

What if you are not overly sure what you are doing but wanting and willing to give it a go!

Would it be a good project to start off with?

The std engine & the LET are both big block motors, the LET will go in on std Cav mounts, however the std F16 gearbox is too weak & IIRC the mk2 Cav versions use a strange fr gearbox mount, so in order to mount the F28 (best) you may need to dream up a mount for that to bolt to the nearside chassis leg.

Why do that to the SEH when its high compression? its an unnatural starting point. Much better to use the 20NE which is essentially the same as the SEH but with lower compression!

Thats right. The Mk2 Cavalier uses 4 engine mounts as opposed to 3 on all other Vauxhalls of the age. The ones on the front of the block, and front of the gearbox will be fine with a LET/F28. Craigs bang on about the gearbox, if you want to use and F28 there would be some major modifications needed to the shell. Personally, power dependant, I'd whack F20 internals inside the orginal F16 gearbox casing and use that, and not bother with an F28.

Theres a 4th mount on the back of the block, just under the altenator on the Mk2 cavalier, I imagain people just delete this when they fit a LET, or it fits the LET block.

As for the conversion itself, nah I wouldnt bother. Its not straight forward given the shell modifcations needed for the F28 and personally I think its just way to much power for what the cars designed to handle. I'd deffinatly XE one though and that'd be more than enough! I love Mk2 Cavalier and miss mine like mad after only 3 weeks
