| Andy_L's 5 Door Nova Robjenko kindly came round one rainy Sunday (raining in Wales what are the chances ) and we made a start stripping the front end. Much appreciated
Bascially between me and her we've had the car for nearly a decade now (before I knew better I told her it was getting old therefore she should buy a new car and as I was broke I'd trundle round in it). I was rewarded with the distributor going on my first day of ownership but that aside she has been pretty much faultless which is more than can be said for the Fester. Anyway scrapping is not an issue so hence the project.
Engine needs pulling out so this can be sorted.
One headlight out, a complete **** to do we found.
Passenger inner wing looks good
Drivers side not so good.
The splash guard literally fell apart and after scraping at some of the underseal in the wheel arch more rust may be lurking.
How it looked when we finished
Battery tray and chassis legs look pretty good suprisingly and the boot floor has a couple of pricks of daylight but not too bad.
Underseal from the wheel arches needs to be taken off next and then pull the engine out so some welding can be done. |

| it is a lot cleaner than andy makes out - ive mot'ed worse!! underside is very solid with no signs of any rot! boot floor and rear chasis legs are near spotless too as are the fronts. its just the splash guards are worse for wear, front pannel, and rear arches are bubbling slightly but on the whole its very good. |

| 4 speeds are indeed the way forward
Plans are to get the bodywork sorted (needs new offside rear quarter, slam panel and front section at least)
Maybe a different engine.
Certainly some 256 brakes and lowered suspension, would like ot keep the 14s too but will have to wait and see. |

This is the best pic I have. The adhesive weights clear the callipers by about 4mm.
Aren't those Nova three-spoke jobs 13s?

| They are 14's Jack. The problem with them is the width not height, I didn't make that clear.
The Ronal wheels aren't wide enough, (mine are 4.5", need to be 5" wide) so it's either small spacers or grind some off the caliper I think. |

| Ah, I see.
How much would you need to grind off? I'm not a fan of spacers, personally. |

| Andy fit some Nova Sri/Gsi vented brakes and the bigger gsi/gte brake servo.
They pritty good brakes and a hell of a lot better than the standard 1.2 crap.
Plus there only 236mm so fit under all 3 spokes.
Pritty cool project imo, ive always fancied doing a 5 door, and id recommend for cheapness fitting a 1.3/1.4 sr lump with a 32/34 carb and a full exhaust system, you should be knocking on about 80-85bhp and with a decent cam it will be more, plus they just love to rev.

| Bought a set of stainless steel wing fixings off Shaun off of PNG, for when I refit the wings.
Highly recommended.
That's about it.
Spending some of the weekend on the car so will hopefully have done/broken something by Monday
Hopefully seeing my parents on the weekend and collecting a set of ramps and an engine hoist my dad claims to have. We'll see
Andy - it's got to be 256's, have also thought about a rear disc beam but decided that's a tad excessive. |

| Re: Andy_L's 5 Door Nova Well I've done eff all with the car since as other things have taken priority, but hopefully once next Thursday is out the way I can start to make some slow progress (we don't want to rush things )
Thanks to Don for the discs and calipers, much appreciated, he's got some welding to do for me too at some point (pretty please)
The only thing I have done is travel up to Sheffield to meet Chris S to purchase a slam panel and crossmember. Top bloke gave me loads of tips most of which I've now forgotten
Need to get it spot welded in next |
