| Well went and got a jerry can of petrol this morning and headed up there. Put the fuel in, took the battery off the Turbo and tried it. Turned over but thats it. Swapped the leads and coil off the turbo, and nothing still. So wired fuel pump up to permanent live and stil nothing, so wired ECU switched live to permanent and boom. Fired up straight away. So i sourced a switched live and connected it up, reconnected fuel pump wiring correctly and set about on other bits. Put a strut brace on:
It was making a funny noise and i realised the atlernator earth was rubbing on the pulley so moved that out the way:
Got the brakes on and the wheels on. Loving theyre look. Need to put the rear springs on now to see how it sits:
Andy turned up in the White one with only third. We adjusted the linkage and lost second, so left it till tomorrow till we have the energy to make miniscule adjustments to get it right. Steve turned up and fitted his tinted headlights and GSi grille, i put the bonnet back on the estate, put the twin horns back on and we went home.
More progress tomorrow....

| Well, arrived today and heres how it looked:
Pilfered some bits off the turbo:
And got it looking like a car again:
Then onto the rear springs:
Good job im changing them as one had snapped:
Old Vs New (half the size )
Back down but a bit too low (best put them up for sale then )
So took them off and put some others on i had (much better!):
But it wasnt without trouble (it hurt )
Andy adjusted his power steering belt:
Im so loving the way it looks on the wheels:
Then oil, water, linkage adjustment and:
Hell yeah! Loving it. Need to get my mate opposite to join the manifold to the STD system, get it booked in for MOT and away we go. Just forgot to bleed the brakes which was scary ! |

Only cut it where the downpipe was welded to the decat so it can be used for an astra again... |

| Right well todays mince wasnt the best but the issues will be dealt with.
First was side repeaters. The old ford ones hanging out of it were no good so thought id get some new ones:
Then one rear cluster had a hole in it so changed it for one i had in stock:
Then a snack and a brew:
The gear knob that was in it when i got it was rank so swapped it and the gaitor for another stocked item:
It also had a random thing on the dash so that came off too, just need to clean the dash to get rid of the marks:
Then noticed i had a bulb out in the clock so set about changing that, then realised the heater controls werent illuminated either:
So took it all apart:
Got the bulb holder out, shut up shop and nipped down the factors, got the right bulbs and came back. Put them in and the were very dim. So thought oh welltheyll do for now and ill source some LEDs at some point so put it back together. Checked how dim the were when complete and you could hardly see them, checked the bulbs packaging and they said 24 volt. Bloody woman! She gave me the wrong ones. So ive taken it apart again and left it till tomorrow when i pick up the 12 volt ones.
Now next point was an issue. Ive ordered new plates so set about taking the old one off. As i went to undo it it fell off. And i was left with a nasty site. So i picked away some more and it looks like this:
Not good. So its going back to Emersons (who done my exhaust) to have the bit cut out and a plate welded in and undersealed. Itll be behind the plate so doesnt have to be body coloured. The front wings are rusting too so i have replacements for them. Thankfully the underneath looks solid, so we shall see when its MOTd in the week. Might be taking the XE out again .
Anyhow cracked on with another job. Debadging. I was going to keep the 1.6 16v badges but they were loose anyway so ill get replacements. Griffin was manky too so that came off ready for a replacement too:
Also thought about the rubbing strips too. Do i remove them or keep them. I quite like them so havent removed them just yet, and toyed with badge options:
Not sure yet. Everyone close to me knows my head ticks a hell of a lot and tonight i was thinking of stripping the Saloon out and tracking that as a LET, and putting all the leather and such like in the Estate for daily duties. But i have a Vectra DTi CDX coming soon so is there anypoint to 2 comfy cars? But if i strip this ill still have the Turbo as a comfy car. So im stuck with what to do at the mo...
Anyway heres my plates:
So any thoughts on my dilemma ? |
