Nova 1.6T GSI Build

Got this posted everywhere else, so thought i might aswell stick it here aswell.

Well folks as some of you may know i had a wee accident in the nova. Was going to just fix the damage then sell it, but decided to go the whole way and build my dream nova.
Some history of the car so far. bought the car in April from Cubie off here, then fitted some cavy gsi wheels for a while

Then went on the trusty old speedlines, astra mudflaps and a set of 80mm rear stock rod springs

Ran around in it for a while just enjoying the car untill i had a wee accident with a renault and it ended up looking like this

So decided to take her off the road and rebuild her and change the engine to a c20let. Now sitting in my garage, started taking bits off ready for a respray in a few weeks. Puting brand new genuine front wings, bonnet and bumpers on which are coming all the way over from luxemborg :!
Phase 3 LET
Courtney fast road cams
vxr injectors
steel headgasket
arp bolts
uprated pistons
OE Throttle body
Maybe a hybrid turbo, but i doubt it.
Will try and remember to update this as i go along.
Well i finally got set in about the car today! Got the bodywork bits off that are getting replaced. Brand new wings, bonnet, bumper and sideskirts to go on. Then tackled the job of removing the engine, was nice and easy didnt get any hassle apart from one bolt that stripped on the manifold.
Glad to say the project started off without a hitch.
Set about taking the panels off

Then onto engine

Finished off with a nice empty bay ready to get seam welded.

Next to do is get chizfab to seam weld the engine bay and fit the chris astley strenghening (sp) kit i bought. Then will be going for paint
Well these arrived today, Brand new genuine GM GSI sideskirts. All the way from Luxemborg

Also received my chris astley strenghening plate kit, so now i can crack on with getting the car seam welded

Sorry for **** pictures but my camera phone is whack, should really charge the battery on my camera
Aye man, should be quality fun when its all finished. Hope to have it ready for the show season, but we will see...
Thats the welding and strenghening been done! Cheers to Chizfab for sorting us out 8) Few pics

How the car stands just now, still a loooong way to go

Amazing how much ****e comes out a nova

So now its just a case of waiting on my panels so i can get it in for paint, just secured myself brand new front wings, gsi bumper and grille. Might do the rear 1/4s but not sure yet.

Im chuffed with the welding, good prices to. Next up will be a cage
Anyways, the stopping power arrived today. In the form of wilwood 4 pot calipers with 310mm brake discs. Going to need spacers though to get them to fit.

Not much been happening lately, waiting on panels so i can get the car painted. Any suggestions where?
Should really be getting the engine rebuilt but that sounds like too much effort right now.
Coilovers arrived this week though.

Well new engine is planned, something a wee bit differant!
Courtney sport 1.6 turbo

Not received it yet, was sent off by courier yesterday. Should get it Friday or Monday and will post more pictures then.
Well engine arrived today! Also just ordered a Quiffe LSD for it 8)

Also got some of my panels on Saturday

All brand new genuine OE panels, which are extremly hard (and expensive) to get a hold of for novas now! These ones came all the way from Germany 8O
Unfortunatly one of the rear 1/4 panels was damaged, so that will be getting sent across along with 2 new doors soon.
Here is a picture of the side i really need to replace, n/s rear quarter. Other side is in perfect condition though.

Also got some 16" Irmscher softstars to replace my speedlines

As soon as i get the rear 1/4 il get it away for paint, then its the hard part. Putting the car back together! 8O Got all the parts i need/want now.

Just noticed on the plating kit mate you havent welded in the holes on the 2 large plates inside the chassis leg each side.

Nice project though mate, keep up the good work.

No it isnt too bad, but i plan on keeping this for a good few years and want decided its better to get them done now. Also the arches have been cut out and new plates welded in by a previous owner, and the job leaves a little more to be desired for.

Engine is pretty clean as it is, few rusty bits il tidy up. Block has had a good job at being painted. Maybe a couple polished/chromed bits here and there.

Getting stuck in about ripping the old underseal off tomorow, ready for painting the underside

Just a wee update. Picked up a new intercooler, one off a Focus ST from work. Should do the trick as its a decent size, going to paint it black and have it out the middle of the bumper just below the number plate.

Also picked up my other rear quarter on Sunday, so hopefully get it painted over the next few weeks. Then it will be time to put this jigsaw together!

Well been trying like mad to sort out all the vinyl.

Vauxhall only have the gsi door stickers left, so got them today.

Got genuine B-pillar vinyls coming over from Amsterdam as we speak.

Now the rear vinyls im in two minds about.
Picked up a genuine set today, its got vauxhall on the right though. A bit looks a bit like the badging on basic models. Which im not to sure about, and i also think the gsi badge may be squint.

Also got a set of replica vinyl from Steve, which im faveouring more as the quality is excellant. Only problem is with the G on the sticker

Do you think it will be easily noticed?

Car is also away for paint finally, i might make PVS yet!
