| My WIP 1600 16v Track motor Evening all. Ive been on here a while now just generally getting tips and advice so i thought it was about time i started a wip thread. The cars going to be used for track days and maybe hill climbs with the local motorsport club. Hoping to have it finished by xmas but very much doubt it, been on with it for about 12 months now and all i seem to have is a room full of parts . Supose the best place to start would be the shell.
Trying to make the car as light as possible so the following parts have hoarded
Fibreglass bonnet and boot
Fibreglass roof
Fibreglass wings
And fibreglass doors
Still waiting to buy the fibreglass rear quaters. Dont realy know what weight to aim for, the cage weighs quite a bit and still needs finishing (im going through to the turret tops and a lil bit more sich welding throughout the shell).
Hope you all like it will get some more pics up soon.

| keep your steel wings, not much weight different, much stiffer, not completely written off after the slightest touch against something and offer slightly more crumple material when you stack it.
so long as the pillars are well tagged to the cage the roof should be ok but i wouldnt fancy rolling...

| if using the car on the road id be tempted for the ATB dif not the trans x plated one. mate has one in his 205 rally car and says its a pain on the road.
spec sound pretty good for the motor, only thing ive noticed with the sbd heads are the inlets look to be too smooth/polished, which id of thought would cause pooling/poor combustion
be good see pics of the motor build, and turret work when youget it done, im starting mine on my corsa this week |

| forgot to comment on the shell, looks to be a nice piece of kit, looks like the same cage as my old one minus the dash bar and forward triangulation, is it a custom cages job?
you going for power steering rack or lengthened rack since you have to make new rack mounts anyway? |

| Your right about the inlet on the SBD head nothing that a bit of 80 grit cant sort. Will get some pics up when building it. The reason ive gone f/g wings is due to the wide track, im using a nova quick rack with corsa epas. The arms on the rack are then lengthned to match the track.
Ive heard mixed opinions on the quaiffe diff, the car is primeraly for track use. Need a diff with the f20 side gears due to running larger cv's shafts and hubs.
Yeah the cages is a custom cages jobie, im adding the dash bar and forward triangulation and am currently making some gussets at work to tag the cage to the pillars. |

| looking good! titanium valves though? caps and platforms yes, but valves? also wouldnt bother with the big shaft setup, adds weight for no reason, never seen a small block car break a hub/shaft on track

| Got carried away with titanium. The reason im using the large shaft setup is because i was under the impression that because i was widening the track i would need longer shafts? please excuse my ignorance its all a bit new good chance to learn just hope i havnt bitten off more than i can chew |

| Reason ive gone wide track is mainly due to the fact i can adjust toe etc. The kit comes in at the same price as the hockley pillbeam setup, pluss widening the track cant do the handling any harm (please dont beat me for not buying one of your kits )

| same ones i used, rally design meant for an escort mk2, standard height, they even come with a little axle bracket that can be made use of when re doing the lower mount http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog...oducts_id=4313 |

| As Lee said rally design, i got the idea from him. I have the larger type, gives you a bit more to work with (i hope). |

| Sounds good, I'm not keen on the wide track idea but I'd love to see it progress.
Keep at it.

| Todays tasty bits
Quick rack 2.5 turns lock to lock, with solid rack mounts although i have heard mixed opinions on these?
and hhms internal shifter kit (straight to the box turret)
Was suposed to be doing some work on the shell this weekend but doubt i will be doing now. Just had a fault code read on the daily driver variable valve timing is out causing high emmisions and lumpy idle fookin £600 pounds of a job! Well pissed of! |
