I wish they were roller barrells. Going to have to see how i go on with the flywheel/clutch, i may not like it.

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

yeah, i think it will be a bit much if you want to road it, are they sintered plates? if so you definitely want to swap, as if you slip them they're funked, whereas you can slip a cerametallic and it will be fine, maybe just go for a 7.25 single plate if your looking to do road miles

Spec list on the engine looks lovely, what sort of power will this be making (above 250bhp?)

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

Looks like a serious bit of kit!! What sort of cost was that to build?

Any videos/pics of the engine in it's previous home?

It made 275bhp / 183lbft on its last rr but since then the manifold has been changed and a few other bits and bobs.

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

That exhaust manifold is fkin special. Can someone explain the benefits of that over the normal straight down and under the sump ones?

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

clearance! the shape in itself is probably a tiny bit more restrictive than just going under the engine as it has an extra 90 degrees of bend, but it will allow the extra long primary lengths of a type c type manifold with out the issue of getting it to fit in the car without hitting the chassis etc
typical of matty simpson though, nice large radius bends and spot on fabrication work

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

All the pipes are equal length, a normal manifold has longer pipes on the outside and shorter on the inside. Its more balanced as all the gas' escape at the same rate.

I think.... please correct me if im wrong (im sure someone will)

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

any decent manifold has equal primary and secondary lengths though, those 'loops' are not neccesary to achieve that

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

Clearnace? My huge SBD TypeC manifold fits in my corsa ok. Are you saying that that manifold is designed purely for a high powered XE into a Nova? Or that that manifold is looooads better than the SBD TypeCs?

PS. Saw a picture on PNG the other day of a chap with a manifold that went around by the dizzy on an XE. That was also mental!

Re: My WIP 1600 16v Track motor

The manifolds that go round the dizzy and over the box were used on some of the btcc cavs i think? This allowed the engine to be pushed lower down.

that manifold is better than a type c mainly because of the large radius bends matt uses, the type c from SBD is actually fairly compact for what it is, but thats because of the way the secondaires are stacked, and i wouldnt be surprised to find the primaries on the one above are a slighlty larger diameter than the type c
all i'm saying is matt will have built that to fit the car, and obviously though that was the best way of getting the primary and secondary lengths correct without running into clearance issues with something, or so he could tuck the pipes close to the dry sump pan, the design of the 'loops' does not enhance the performance because of their shape
