Senator 24v manual ex-police, track / drift car

Spose I best start a thread on this then. Dont think I have yet! Bit of copy and paste.....

My current daily ride...

L reg White 24v manual ex police. Lots of fun, as I found out when I was kindly invited to Marham (track day)....

(cheers for the pic Mr Marsh!)

The Senator.....

Duties:- Daily driver + temporary track + drift car.

Craigs (previous owner) sold me an excellent car I think, however, as with any car in this price bracket and age it has its issues. I shall list them.....

-Suspect DMF
-Prop centre mount dead
-Exhaust blowing left right and centre (sounds nice though! )
-Paint is 'police spec oversprayed'
-Filler plugs in roof for old light bars now held in with silicone until I fix them properly!
-Clutch probably not in 100% tip top condition
-Synchro on 3rd very weak and 4th weak.
-few interior niggles
-leaky boot (dont they all?)

And thats about it I think! Sounds worse than it is, and I do love this car a lot. I was hoping to have one of the Mk2's MOT'd by now so I could start correcting some of this cars issues however a simple headgasket change has expanded to removing the whole engine and playing with it  Ill learn one day.

Right then. After my little off at a trackday....
see here http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/car-t...84-whoops.html

.... thought I best get round to that repairing!

Just jacked the car up to drain the oil for prep for taking the sump off. This is the first time Ive looked at the car properly in the cold hard light of day.... err night! In otherwords, without too much adrenalin kicking round!

Well, I thought the car drove straight enough, so presumed the car hadnt knocked out its tracking too much. WRONG!

Yup, thatd be CANVAS. On a set that were perfectly legal. Oh well, good job I didnt get pulled on the way back.

Also while warming it up, I got some stream from the rad. Im hoping (praying ) this is just condensation wisping off, as I hadnt really lost much coolant at all on the journey back.

Also....

Thought the aim was funny! How the heck they broke I have no idea (the other ones almost cracked through too.)

Aaaaaaaaand.....

Thats a bit bent Nowt some gentle persuasion wont solve.

Makes me realise quite how big an off it was though TBH. Definitely food for thought. I will also be looking over my car much more carefully before driving it home next time

Killed list.....
-Sump
-Drivers side suspension arm
-2 headlights
-Rear bumper
-Rad maybe
-Pair of tyres
-Possibly a wheel bearing (was a bit vibraty on the way home at certain speeds)

Let the fixing continue! (Im back off to the garage!)

Thing you have to remember is that these things are built like tanks, so even with a pretty heavy "off" like the one you've had, you may not have felt much impact

Nice example though - get her fixed pronto!

Those Omega rims really suit it. Give it an Opel look to it if that makes any sense?

Mark, I tell you what really looks good on the Sennys, not sure on lighter examples, but painting the grille mat black so it matches the black plastic of the bumpers. Seen it done a few times and it looks great.

yeah Ive looked at that. The whole paint job could do with looking at though TBH. The police boys did a rubbish job when it left them! And that was 8 years ago

Was toying with a nato green and satin black design (just to your taste eh Simon? its not meant to be a car taken seriously BTW) but I cant make my mind up if it looks ghey or not. Im not going to spend lots of money on it..... which means me and rattle cans / a mates spray gun. I may make it snow camo LOL. or I may just leave it be. We shall see.

BTW repaired the bumper with zip ties (its not in one piece) and also attached it to the car with zip ties. Binned the bumper iron, so thats 3kgs save LOL.

Mark, you should have left it mud coloured as from PVS last year.
Much cheaper and quicker than camo or a matt rattle can job. Plus if it's not to be taken seriously, it's definately the way to go

Oooooooooooooook finally gotten around to working on the senator! Its been a miserable weekend to work outside but hey. First job, remove that engine. Why? Well its either remove the engine or remove the front subframe to remove the sump for repair, and seeing as I needed to change the gearbox and clutch, and hopefully flywheel, and do some welding to an inaccessible chassis leg, I though Id pull the engine and box out.

So my brother came up to give me a hand (IE MAKE me work. Sometimes I need a little push to get started) and........

Box off, clutch off, sump off

Note gangsta engine stand utilising wood and the original engine mounts. Solid as a rock though.

Oh and I think that shes leaking a bit more water than anticipated into the cabin! Most of the soft furnishings look like this......

Good job most are going in the bin/recycle

It all starts here! Sumps off to be repaired / improved. Gotta get the flywheel off and compare with my XE one on the off chance it might fit, failing that getting a custom one done hopefully

Already got a spare good gearbox. Happy days, Im working on cars again. Massive thanks to my brother who helped out A LOT. I know this is just the easy bit, but its an important mental step.
