The birth, re-birth, death and re birth of the Silver GSI

Thought I would post this as a reminder to me how much time it owes me! lmao

Shell purchased in 2005 with roll centre cage and 2L Engine fitted

Fully stripped down and repainted. No rust found, so it was a simple rub down and re-paint both exterior and interior. Notice the new GM roofskin to get rid of the sunroof!!

Engine and associated parts sold off (for a profit!! Lol)

1600 16v engine fully rebuilt (for 3rd time!) with new pocketed pistons, rods, bearings etc. SBD 184 kit included (cams etc) was fitted in June 2005

Ran for approx 8 months with a few problems until…

    Engine Death!

Decision was made to go 2L power, as the 1600 had been too much of a nightmare!

Started buying bits to convert the 1600 TBs to fit the 2L….along with an sbd type C manifold and some Pico high flow injectors

Then bought an F28 with an ATB diff in, to swap into the F20 I had. Fitted all new bearings and seals for good measure too….

Bought a 1988 20XE with an early Coscast head with the larger guides and hand-finished ports.

Then found a John Toovey built ‘race’ spec engine that was going for a reasonable price that had recently been built, with receipts that would make your eyes bleed! Lol

It was a bare engine, but most of the bits either fitted off the 1600 or were taken from the other XE I had.

Also fitted an alloy bottom pulley and a 5kg flywheel from an Escort XE.

Realised that my SBD manifold would clear the Swindon baffled sump! So had a standard alloy sump baffled from Toovey.

Fitted a Corsa PAS quick rack with a Saxo electric pump

Took a while to mount the 16 row Mocal oil cooler too, but got a hydraulic place to make me up some pipework, so I could squeeze it in, next to the rad.

Most bits fitted and almost ready to go….

Then it was mapped at Mech Motorsport in Cheltenham, but we couldn’t get it to sit properly on the rollers to get a full power reading…. But it was sitting at 217 bhp @ 6700, and it needed as much fuel at the limiter (8200) as it did at 6700…. So it goes well!

Here she is at Llandow a few weeks later!!

Too many Vauxhalls, not enough fuel.

    Very nice. Like that.

Change the HP fuel line from the FPR to a braided item though. Especially with those JIC connectors.

Cheers matey, the corsa rack needs about .5" cut off from each end and re-threaded. You also have to cut away where it meets the bulkhead, but its nothing really. Easily one of the best mods I have done.

Unsure what you mean ref the dizzy? Its blanked and I am using the 1600 coil pack for the MBE...

Will post an engine spec when I have 10 minutes! lmao

when you say cut off and re threaded.. where do you mean from?
and normal xes have a dome like end on the dizzy blank bit, with a sensor onthe bottom,
    where you have nothing...

That was the nova that was done by ASW wasnt it, was featured in Fast Car (i think) years ago with Nick Caro's nova with it!

Look nice all finished, i think everybody has had theyre nova stripped at some point to re do it to a different level of modification and upgrading!
