Re: Ronnie's new runaround - Project VAN!

well as the turbo's not gonna be making it to the show now, and my mig stand pass came through i thought i might as well make good use of it on the van

but as ive been just using it as a work run around it was pretty dam dirty lol (white cars never seem to look dirty on pics lol)

so gave it a quich clean off to get most of the dirt and grime off

and got it on to give it a nice machine polish! really the whole van could do with flat and polishing, but its not that privalaged so it just got a nice hard cut and buff!

    before

    and 2-3hours later

next was to sort the rear suspension, all this time ive just been running on heated up standard rear springs, naughty naughty lol, and my back had had enough, as there was pretty much no suspension travel on the rear, it was the bumpyest car/van/tractor id ever driven lol

so one of my mates gave me some 60mm corsa springs to try and see what happens, so took the olds springs off

no wonder there was no travel lol

    and the corsa springs

i let the van back down on the ground with no springs or bump stops or anything on just for a laugh

and it only sits about 30mm lower than when its got springs in

fitted the corsa springs, the bottoms just slotted straight on but had to chop a little bit of the pig tail off the top as the locating lobe is slightly thicker on the astra to the corsa! and all on, i did cut the bump stop down a little bit too to give me a little more travel!

next was to clean the inside

the inside had a full valet and then outside for a proper wash! and looking cool

then took it home and got into my head i wanted to fit a dump valve on it, a gary boy urge lol

    so the power plant

with no astra work comenceing at the mo id missed a bit of fabracation, had to make up a t-piece for the dump valve

    all ready

but tried a few different vaccum feeds but no ptchhha not sure why not, gonna have to some investigating!

so anyways all cleaned and looking good

and remembered i had some indicators i'd got off drizz ages ago, so fitted them too

will prob get some new number plates made up at work next week to finish it off! gotta get some tyres too before next weekend, prob gonna be the biggest expence on the van EVER!! lol

Re: Ronnie's new runaround - Project VAN!

isn't the dump valve not hissing because it's a diesel? there's no back pressure on the turbo diesel engine because of the way they recirculate the boost as far as i remember. you can get DV's for diesels but it's just for the noise, they do nothing at all for performance and cost around 260 quid

If you think about it works, there's no throttle flap, so there's no build up of pressure when you snap your foot off the throttle.

You won't make a peep with a dump valve on a diesel engine.
