Hey ronnie, just checked with my mate, and we have one of these kicking around if you want it ? has new springs, all the valves recently lapped in, but needs a stem seal![]()
The cake is a lie :(
Good to see you're sticking with the GM, Ronnie. They're not bad engines if they're looked after, I think they just get a bad rep because they're always compared with the Isuzu. Which obviously is miles better. And attracts women like you wouldn't believe.
Teeth? LUXURY! When I was a child we ate by putting rocks in our mouth and jumping up and down.
cant change a habbit with the van, it gets as little as possible spent on it whats so ever! lmao
if i was to change a whole engine it would be for another diesal anyway, how ever much better it is lol!
BIG thanks to SteveM for sourceing me a head![]()

well managed to go get a head finally![]()
went to milton keynes today, bout 2 hours and picked it up, had new valve spring, valve stem seals, and all the valves lapped in, and had a pressure test and a skim before fitting, and wasnt on for all that long before the guy found his bottom end was nakered, so he just got a new engine!
and all for 30quid
gave it a clean up
the oly thing he did say was he caught one of the valve stem seals when fiting it so he glued it up, so thought as i had a full head set id replace it
stuck my injectors and glow plugs in as i new they were deffo all good
got my delivery from autovaux out
but went to put the manifolds on and its the wrong ****in head set
its correct on the packageing though isnt it??
nothings ever easy![]()
if the head gasket the same use that. and go to local motor fActors and get some gasket paper and make the rest mate
Happy to help mate![]()
Wish i could help you with the astralmao
The cake is a lie :(
OMG
When will it go right, when it does Ronnie... Put a pound on the lottery mate
wel finally got the head set through today, genuine erlingplesant suprise lol
so went out to the van, where it had been sitting for a fortnignt now
correct gaskets this time
built up the head
new headgasket on
gettin all ready to go on and noticed something really strange.....
on the end of the cam is the locating hole
but nothing on the cam sprocket?????
how the **** are you suposed to know where it goes? got 360degrees of cam adjustmaent???????even if you work out where the cam is tdc, and line the sprocket timing mark up, its still gonna spin when you tighten it up???
things are never bloody simple
could see where it was on the sprocket by the whitness marks, so dot punched and drilled it
and made up a 6mm dowl for the cam
then stuck the head on
went to put the cambelt ont but got stuck on the tensioner??
how do you work/lock/adjust it????
help please....
put an alen key in the tear shaped bits hole, twist round, and do up the 13 in the middle![]()
and yeah, the diesels have no locator on the sprocketi was also confused lmao. theres a tool you can get that goes on the vac pump end which locks it tdc, then your meant to just do up the pulley and keep your fingers crossed it doesn't spin
lmao
The cake is a lie :(
Turn the alley key till the pointer is by the New mark(if your using a new belt), and tighten the 13mm.
Turn it over by hand, then undo the bolt, turn the alley key bit till the pointer is lined up to either the used/new belt mark, and then torque the bolt up
Done
so wheres the new/used belt mark?
it is a new belt by the way.
in the last picture the pointer lines up with the v cut out when tensioned up.
Looking at your last pic, there aint any lma
Must be different than petrol engine auto tensioners.
Just turn the alley kit bit until the pointer points towards that V cutout in the back plate on the tensioner.
ron i got auto data here if you want me to email you the timing belts info?
just give the engine number and can email over? and is it a bosch or lucas.
pm'd cheers![]()
theres no locator for the cam pully cos your suppose to use a dial gauge on the camshaft to find the right posistion to bolt it on at , thats why there's no timing marks and stuff . these engines r a nightmare , lucky you could see that marking on the pully .
well worked out all the cambelt tensioner in the end, easy when you know how lol
started up first time, didnt even need to bleed the injectors up or anything which was handy!
idled lovely and all ran perfect!
all going well, gave it a little rev, only to like 1500rpm, then all missfireing and getting alot of backfires through the turbo and it stopped, i thought doh cambelts slipped, bent the valves, took the cambelt covers off, and all the timing marks were spot on stillstrange, tried stating it again, just jumpy turning over on the strarter and popping aback through the turbo!
strange, so whipped the rocker cover off and found this
a broken rocker on cyl1 and cyl3
so whipped the head bolts and cam box off
put all my old rockers and lifters in incase there was someting wrong with the ones in the new head,
and back together, reused the bolts and gaskets, its ****ed already so whats the worst that can happen
started it up again, fired into life again, idles perfect, smooth as ever!
gave a little 1500rpm rev again and bang pop pop pop, cambelt cover was still off so linded up the timeing marks and all spot on still,
so took off the rocker cover and another broken rocker, in cly3 again, but the other valve
what the **** is goin on???
