| i thoroughly recommend you poly bushing the anti roll bars at least together with 16" alloys and maybe a stut bar will transform the handling a little better
dont forget to use millers sport diesel additive a little more umpf and helps cleans the chit form the combustion chambers keeping injectors happy / maintain power and good mpg |

| When you say "handle better", let's put things in perspective. It's a diesel Cavalier, not a Morgan.
I've got some 15s to go on and some nice tyres, but that's purely for my own peace of mind more than anything else.
And as for diesel additives: I am highly sceptical of them, and the only thing that's ever been in the tank apart from diesel is John Deere injector cleaner. |

| Cheers dude.
They're 195/65/14, so almost an inch wider than my last ones. I like them so far, very quiet and feel very confident. |

| Nankang are the best budget tyre IMHO, I'm not surprised you like them. If you do a google search you'll find they are a subsiduary of a performance brand (Yokohama or Bridgestone or something!)
Dude, if you're up for the Westmids Santa Pod day this month then I'll race ya! |

| Yeah, they're owned by Yokohama.
I'm well up for going but I don't think I'll be racing. |

| The swimming incident
Was driving to meet my mates in Long Eaton on thursday night (as we go climbing in Nottingham).
He phoned me up during the day and said that the Tamworth road in to Long Eaton was closed because of flooding. Fair enough, I thought. I'll have a quick look at a map and find an alternative route. Well, for whatever reason, that never happened, and I was half way up the A38 before I remembered that the road was closed.
In true Jack fashion, I decided to wing it. I turned up the A6 towards Derby, then right onto a road that led through some little towns. I'm heading in the right direction, I thought, I should pop out somewhere in Long Eaton.
Being one of my plans, it was destined for failure. I ended up on the island that you exit the A50 on, so I still had to go down the Tamworth road.
I saw a car drive past the Road Closed sign, so I thought I'd follow and just see what the flood was like, for my own curiosity.
There was a coach, a Ka and me, all sneaking down to have a look at the flood. The coach was taking no **** off anyone, and drove straight through. The Ka inched closer and closer and got it's little wheels wet, before reversing out and turning round.
I had a quick think about where all the looms run and other important bits, then decided to go for it. I stayed in first gear, and kept the revs at about 3000. I was careful not to make a big splash, and kept the speed up as it got deeper.
I have to say, this was the strangest driving experience I've ever had. I've never driven through water before. The water came up to the top of the bumpers, just under the headlights.
On the way back, I decided to have another crack at it, with my mate following in his 1.9 Leon TDI. We had to drive round two muppets in 306s that were obviously debating whether or not it was worth it, and a Mercedes that was stuck in the middle.
So far, no ill effects. I was worried I'd find wet carpets and things, but no, not a drip made it inside the car. Unfortunately, the Leon now has rear footwells that look like pond water.
I've given it a thorough look over today and gone around all the electrics with a can of WD40, and it all looks fine. In fact, it's more than fine, as it's cleaned all the underneath of my arches!
I'm amazed at this car, to be honest. I imagined driving round for weeks with no carpet while it was hung up to dry, and having a knackered alternator (again). A test with the multi-meter... alternator putting it 14.5v.
Every time I get in it I expect something to not work, but it hasn't yet. Amazing car. |

Dude, you know the roundabout at the end of Tamworth road, next to the train station? (ie opposite end of Tamworth road to the ASDA end) - well that roundabout gives you three routes to get to Asda. Left = Via Wilsthorpe. Right = Via Just Novas and Corsas / KFC/ Tesco, and obviously the middle choice is Tamworth road.
Should have called round |
