Its not just the rack that is wrong, its the entire front suspension and steering setup, the arms come out of the shocks facing back instead of forward, and if you swap them side to side to reverse them then the ackerman angles are all reversed.
NONE of the vectra stuff will be of any use to him at all (or calibra or any other FWD vaux setup) if he wants it to handle properly |

As for the steering i'm still looking into it. the person who done the rwd cav used a vectra rack but i'm looking at taking the whole front subframe of the omega and seeing what does and doesn't fit. The only way i can see the vectra stuff fitting is by lowering it down and having the track rod ends facing up side down and then they'd be at a mad angle. |

| track rod ends faceing upside down?? sorry mate but i think the holes in the steering arms are taperd and the taper is the wrong way up, either weld the hole up and redrill the taper, some how??? or cut the end off flip it over and weld back on, im not sure what the mot man would say about welding the steering arms tho! |

| can you not get ball joints that bolt through rather than have a tread attached...rose joints? then you would not need the taper......

| sounds like an option just need some way of stopping the bolt slopping around in the taper, but if you can convert to rear wheel drive im sure that wont be a problem, good luck mate |

| i dont know specific sizes but im sure the taper could be drilled out (it is only very slight) and a larger bolt used through it. This would also be a good fix for extra low cars, allowing the steering arms to leveled out.
Really intersted in how the rear beam mounts up. I didint realise the vectra rear floor was so similar!
nice one mate! |

| Omega rack (same as carlton) will work better, however it may foul the LET inlet manifold (like mine did). It's totally different to the vectra racks so a lot of modifying will be needed. Remember you will need a steering idler on the N/S too. |

| little update. my gearbox came today
[IMG] [IMG]
mated to a block
[IMG] [IMG]
picture of the subframe modded for the gearbox and started to cut the bulkhead away
[IMG] [IMG]
a pic showing how the steering get's in the way so will have to look into omega stuff.
how the car looks with the axle nearly all on
Over the weekend i'll start attacking the floor and lining up the engine and box so i know how far back it'll go. i'm going to try to have it as far back and low down as possible so we'll see how it goes |
